ALIEN Space Jocky. First Zbrush WIP

Finally sat down and started teaching myself how to model and sculpt in Zbrush. I have to say… this only took one day where it took me 6 months to create a character in 3DS Max. Absolutely beautiful. I have to say I am happier now than I ever have been with a computer program. Ever. Even Photoshop gave me headaches at times.

I decided to create a version of the SpaceJockey seen in the film ALIEN from a photoshop work I did.

That piece can be seen here:

I am having some problems here and there with the symmetry function, and some weird joining problems, but with time, Im shure I will find solutions.

Very cool idea for a first model Cenobite. I have the intention to do a model in the future w/ Chatterbox, so I just had to post to this thread, haha!

I am new to z2 as well, but here are my comments regarding what I do know.

About the symmetry, if you set the pivot point while hiding other areas, you can offset the x sym when completely shown. I’ve done this a couple of times. Just clear point point and you should be back to normal, fyi, these are the two buttons on the roght side of the screen.

If your issue is something small, like one eye, is off a little, you can smart resym (or plain resym) from the Tools/Deformation menu.

I like your model so far Cenobite and I am anxious to see more progress!
Good job.

Neat Model

Zbrush is my favorite application also

LOL! Good one, cedell. I was thinking just that! My next one will be a chatterer as well… we will have to compare notes. Which one were you planning on creating. I personally like the one from the very first film. I didnt care so much for the one in Hellraiser 2, with the eyes. Not as creepy as an apparently blind thing comming at you with teeth clicking away.

Definately Chatterer from the first Hellraiser! Though its not going to be too soon as my next attempt will be more of an anatomical study. I will send you a pm when I start him, or let me know if you start first. I think that would be really cool to get the chance to do comparisons with someone.

This is an update with my modelling progress.
I think I will spend some time texturing him next and trying out zbrush’s ‘Deep Paint’ - like function.

And the front from a distance. Im shure you seasoned zbrush guys are seeing alot of problems and cheap stuff. I ran out of ram and couldnt get more detailed than 6 subdivisions before the ol computer started to stutter. I guess now I probably could have detailed a bit at a time, but maybe will do this on my next model.
