Alien Breed Descent Images

Hello Folks,

This represents a sample of the data I created with ZBrush for the Team 17 game, Alien Breed: Descent. I really enjoyed working on it and want to thank Team 17 for letting me share these pictures with you.

All the material here was made in ZBrush, including the inking of the comic pages. Models were roughed out in Maya and then quickly taken into ZB for polish, detailing and colouring.

Cheers,

Rory

Great stuff…:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Loving the comic pages, plus sculpts…rad

Love it, more, more, more!!!

they look absolutely delicious. very inspiring. 5 stars to ya!

Great Works! Congrats!

Great sculpts!

Your comics pages seem a little “heavy” to me: Too much detail and/or strong blacks overall. This makes the pages very confusing and presumably difficult to color. I think the pages would look better if you could balance these dense areas with some more white space.

Awesome! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: ! Could you show/tell us a bit more about the Comic page MO?

Thanks everyone for the kind remarks.

The comic pages were designed for black and white; the tone needed to be oppressive and dark, to complement the mood of the game it introduces.

At the start of the project, Aurick generously explained how it was possible to have a rough sketch on one layer and to paint the inked final image over it on another layer, exporting only that layer when finished. His tutorial is here:-

Anyone who has a working copy of ZBrush 3 can use this technique, however this no longer is possible in ZBrush 4, but one can still draw over a rough sketch if the sketch is drawn in pure, one RGB channel blue, as this channel easily can be isolated and removed afterwards.

The smooth, clean lines are created by using my modified Standard Brush, (here attached) with mouse average ramped up to eight.

In Preferences/Tablet the Size Sensitivity was set to 1 and the Colour Sensitivity was set to 0, to ensure maximum line expression, whilst maintaining a pure black colour, no matter how lightly I pressed.

Other examples of the technique may be found here:-
