Alexander First Sketchbook

I thought I’d reorganize my threads into this dedicated sketchbook and add some new stuff.

I have a new (dedicated) project now so I’ll probably post about that more then anything, but I hope to keep up on the anatomy studies as well, and maybe some other stuff as I have time.

First is the sci-fi suit from my original thread.

Second Female anatomy.

A kind of pathetic male anatomy study, no pose. Couple hours last week from 300 poly base-mesh.

Lots of images and variants of this gun. Tried many different styles until I got something they were happy with. Try and guess which one.

A ridiculous 33 million polys for this piece.

And finally another female anatomy study, posed. From basemesh, missing backarm, 4 hours tonight because I had the time.

Slightly better/bigger image. Anyways, if anyone has any crits or comments I’d love to hear 'em. Thanks for looking.

Pistol game-res shots. I’m not doing textures or spec, so both those are stand-in. As always, crits appreciated.

You sculpting is good , let me say that first. I am being totally constructive here. The gun seems to be a breech loading gun with an old flint lock mechanism which could not ever produce even a small spark much less fire the main charge when it counted. This link will illustrate for you how this lock works, and you have your on backwards, which is historically accurate for wheel locks, and a scosh few flintlocks in the very early days. You gun does resemble a rare and amazing piece which is caller a “Böller” and is a 12 gauge salute gun, meant to announce the start of a beer bash to all the villages in the mountains of Bavaria.
Here is a link to the Dixie gun works for more examples of correct structure of these type guns. I do understand that people who want to make fantasy guns which bear no resemblance to a real gun, but your gun has parts which indicates that you are trying to sculpt a real flintlock gun, so I am trying to be helpful. If you are intending you gun to be a fantasy gun, just disregard my post. Shep PF

Needed to update my female basemesh for a new project.

Had some time today to update the basemesh. Added mouth compartment. Also, I tried to do a pretty but non-standard face, basically just spent an hour trying to make a face with character. Spent another half hour messing with polypaint.

Anybody know a good tutorial for rendering human skin with sss inside zbrush?

Crits and comments appreciated.

First Zbrush render. Turned out pretty bad but I suppose I’ll get better. I could sure use words of wisdom about fine-tuning zbrush BPR or sources for the more technical stuff. Specifically, I’d like to know how people are rendering eyes and hair.

Great sculpts! Your anatomy is awesome, really like your style as well. Here’s a link to a SSS tutorial eat 3d did for rendering out skin in zb maybe give it a whirl?

Second try. This one is worse somehow.

Thanks for the link. That’s about the only one I could find too, and I did follow it, but there are still a number of things that I can’t figure out a way to control. I looked through zbrush documentation as well, but that didn’t help either.

C&C welcome.

Few things I’ve noticed at a glance is the iris seems to be a bit big inside of the eye. The dark eyeliner looks to be really thick and distracting as well.

New WIP shots.

the freckles are definitely a nice touch but i think it looks too uniform all over the face. if you tone it down everywhere except the cheeks/nose area, it might look more natural imo. nice job with the skintones btw

Other projects call, but I keep updating this one as time allows. Reworked parts of the mesh. Retopo coming soon.
