After work sketchbook - SR (nudity)

This is just a Decimation Master test which I mentioned on my blog. It was 1.9 million polys and I took it down to around 200k. Amazing to not have to use a displacement map.

So the point of this post was basically to answer mikala’s question.
mikala I haven’t tried to rig yet to be honest and I am not sure I would do. The mesh is a bit to random after Decimation Master has finished with it. Really I do the posing in Zbrush and just use Maya to render the image.

I think it would work for static assets but I am not sure I would use a Decimated mesh for animation.

Anyway hope you like these mental ray renders with a quick SSS shader put on the mesh. I also applied an occulsion map the I did in Faogen because I work in games this is one stage that has always slowed my pipeline. Decimation Master has helped my SO very much in this area. So many thanks again to Pixologic for this great tool.

Texturing will be the next stage once I have tweaked the base mesh a bit more.

Any more questions/ comments I am all ears

Hey, not checked your thread for a while. Some very awesome updates! The crab looks great. Thanks for showing off the woman sculpt with the decimated mesh. Really looking forward to using that plugin as I’m a mac user :+1:

Hey Scott, great sketchbook here! I love the crab, it looks really great. It’s on my art reference folder, I hope you don’t mind!

love your work…
cheers

Captain Sensible - Thanks for checking back again and I am glad not to dissapoint.

JR3D - Of course you can put the crab in your ref folder. It’s not 100% perfect because for graphic reasons I changed a few bit on it. But I am glad you like it and thanks for telling me.

vedanta - Short but sweet - thank you very much

Ok so this weekend I reworked and polypainted my female base mesh. I will post an update some time this week.

Seriously thank you for all your nice comments guys - I really helps :sunglasses:small_orange_diamond:+1:

hey man u have some really nice stuff going on here!!.. i love the Coconut/Robber Crab it looks very convincing in both modeling -texturing.
i also loved the converse tennis u sculpted i always wanted to make one of those …still havent a chance to make them.

and man i really think the girl anatomy u have here is going very cool i think feet will need some more job but is a very cool model.

ill keep an eye over this thread mate , keep rocking dude.!:+1:

hey scott…

heres a use for decimation master (still think it sounds like something a decepticon would use as a weapon) …

This was suggested to me by Matthew at Pix…

If you have a massively memory heavy multi sub tool model…use decimation master to reduce the polys…then retop it and project the detail…cool, hey?

HOLY CRAP - Pete that is a really nice idea there mate. I will give that a go. Jeez this program is Awesome.

And yes Decimation Master do sound like a Weapon of mass destruction… clicksmash “FBI, GET DOWN ON THE FLOOR!!!”. Really shouldn’t have said those 3 words (4 if you count prepostions as a word).

Anyway good idea Thanks to Matthew @ Pix

Jorge Lescale - Thanks VERY much for your kind words. The shoe is still very wip and the girl has already changed, feet included, so I will post her again soon. Just need to finish her polypaint.

Glad you guys seem to like the crab. So nice, I thought he was dead in the water (excuse the bad pun) as a piece of artwork. Thanks again

very nice results with the decimation master! in 5 years nobody will remember what displacement maps were used for ! heheh i hope so anyway

Great those last renders of the crab and the model itself :+1: I like how the girl is coming along as well.

cr

hey, really nice work. really nice detail.

That crab is perfect!

nice work

konjo kothar vignar - Totally agree. It’s annoying as I have spent so much time learning the art on Displacement maps but it is also a breath of fresh air for those who can’t or don’t want to UV. Anyway thank you for you comments

cherub_rock - Thank you for your feedback the girl is much further along now due to the fact that I have reworked the base mesh thanks to everyones comments.

loki_22 - thank you very mush

dopepope - nothing is ever perfect but I am glad for the positive comment thank you

arunzb - Thank you very much  :+1:

whoa! awesome! nice speedsculpt!! :+1:

Finally the answer to the age old question “when is an artwork finished”. After 8 hours.
Massive!

Hey Scott, Like your dragon, I had a go with the basemesh from 3dtotal too but I think my Dragon is too Disney/welsh to enter. I think your Dragon has a much better look.

Gr8 model! :+1:thanks for sharing your workflow. I noticed that you did not create fingers and toes in the base mesh. how did you add them later? Subtools?

amazing work! and thanks for the comments on mine!
