ADVISED WORKFLOW W/MANY SUBTOOLS & HIGH SUBD?

Need to see if this is normal or not, cos it’s driving me nuts.

So I have 65 subtools with a total of 70mil polys with high res. Is that too much? cos if I have a lot of the model showing it all slows down, especially if I try working with high subDs,and zbrush has also crashed when trying to use GoZ…
but then I’ve seen very complex models created with Zbrush and what looks like would also be with many subtools, or atleast high poly, are there problems there too then?

My machine’s not rubbish either, quadcore, 8gb ram, quadro fx 1800 graphics card…but my work flow has slowned down considerably making it very hard to finish off the work…If there are dupicated subtools that are high poly, should I only add them in Maya and map them(same UVs obviously)?

Long winded but thanks if anyone can advise

Jason

It is possible to bog down zbrush with too many high rez subtools. Zbrush is also a 32 bit program, which means it cannot use more than 4 gigs of your ram, ever. So, optimization is something you’ll have to look at.

The decimation master may really help you here. Consider using it liberally on any subtools that no longer require additional tweaks or sculpting.

If your subtools need to be UV mapped, do that first, and then use decimation master with the preserve UV option.

There are plenty of other ways to optimize your meshes, but this one might be the quickest.
