Advice and critiques for a character for an animated short

Hi guys,

I need some advice and your opinion on my character in progress for an animated short. Textures and hair are not final, I’m testing materials and hairstyles. I would like to have your feedback on these questions:

  1. How old do you think he is?
  2. How could I make him younger?
  3. Comments on anatomy?
  4. What do you think about his personality, how does he look like?
  5. How could I make him more appealing?

Thankkk you  Any other critique or/and advice would be most welcome!

  1. I would say between 20-30
  2. Younger version is always less wrinkles and bigger head (the body grow with time, but the head from certain stop growing.
  3. Depend if you go cartoon or realist, but I would say the face anatomy is wrong. You should share your reference
  4. Currently he has no expression and his face is too generic to give an idea of his personnality
  5. More appealing should have more interesting details or accessories maybe.

Share a reference of what you aim for… do you have a concept art to follow?

Thank you, Scote

Could you please be more specific about what is wrong with the face anatomy? We have another character finished, so you can see what style we would like for this character too.

We had a concept art, but it wasn’t correct in terms of anatomy, so I stopped following it. We want him to be appealing young man :), opposite from older character above.

Your young character has too much lens distorsion to judge. Now it look like he doesnt have a skull. Try to share without lens distortion like more orthographic views.

Have you should always refer to something as ref. You need refs if you want to nail you goal of character design.

Hi,

Here is the improved version of character, so if you have time to comment, I would really appreciate it

Thank you!
