Advanced rendering in zbrush?

Does anyone know if there is a way I can get more options for getting better renders in Zbrush 3.1? For example, is there a way I can get a bigger resolution render than just what my workspace is? All I’ve been doing as of now is selecting Best in the render options and pasting a printscreen into PS to get a render. But since my workspace is somewhat small, I’d really like to be able to get a bigger render.

Also, is there a way I can adjust the shadows and make them stronger/darker? I know rendering isn’t really what zbrush is primarily used for, but my scene is too big to import into another 3D program and render.

Any tips on how I get get better overall renders in zbrush?

you change the document size…in the document panel…

you export out your document…by going to document…export…

you can change the background color as well as other things in the document panel

to change the lighting you need to go to the lights panel…that gives you the ability to change placement and shadows.

the lighting only works with start up materials, not Matcap materials as they have their lighting information baked into the material.

If you want to set up a really nice render with the ability to change the lighting, shadows, etc in photoshop then use Zapplink to set up a position of your model then you dump out all of your passes one at a time. diffuse, light one, light two, etc. setting up a a reflection material inside zbrush and dumping that out as well is good.

when you set up your document make it 2x the size that you want to actually view, then before you hit export set the canvas to AAhalf (on the right hand side). That will give you the best AA for the finals.

I usually render on a solid black background as well.

Hey thanks man, that helped a lot!
