"Adjusting" Textures on a Poser Head

Hi all,

Another newbie question from me (related to Poser).

I have recently purchased the Natalia 2 Poser figure by Dacort. I’ve been trying to think of ways of utilizing head and body textures from other Poser figures such as DAZ’s Stephanie - seeing as there are not a lot of textures ready-made for Natalia, and in particular no photo-realistic textures that I know of.

One thing that occurred to me was that I could perhaps export Natalia’s head as an obj file, import that file into zBrush, and then load up a Stephanie texture.

Obviously things won’t line up - however it seems like their head textures are reasonably “similar” – so …

I was wondering if it is possible to load up an existing texture into zBrush, and adjust it – i.e. move, stretch and or squash it – so that it “fits” onto the object that is currently in the zBrush window.

I hope this is making sense - please note that I am NOT talking about “painting” textures - rather adjusting an existing texture.

Any help and advice on this would be appreciated.

There is a way outlined in a tutorial by Ken Brilliant on texturing (I don’t have the link but maybe a kind sould will post it).

Basically, you would fill the canvas with a texture from Natalia as a guide, then on another layer place the Stephanie texture on a plane 3D that has had a (semi)-transparent material applied (remember to turn off Render>Flatten layers so the transparency works).

All you need to do then is move the points on the plane until the Stephanie texture matches the Natalia one (you’d want to use the X,Y constraints under Transform>Modifiers to restrict movement to these axes only).

Andreseloy - the link and also links hanging off those were very useful in their own right, but did not answer my original question of how to adjust the texture once it’s applied.

Bonecradle - yes that is what I want to do but HOW ? … using the transform modifiers moves the entire object, including the texture. I’m trying to find out how to move JUST the texture around on an object once it’s been painted on.

Best way I can think of — imagine that you have loose wrapping paper around an object and you can move it (the paper) around, but the object stays still - that is what I am aiming for.

I’ve even gone thru’ the TextureMaster tutorial, and it still doesn’t answer my question (unless I am missing something).

Incidentally, I was a bit puzzled by a couple of the steps. Firstly, it instructs you to turn off Flatten Layers. I was wondering what difference this would make.
Secondly, when grabbing the MRGBZ tool, the instructions are to turn off auto-crop and Shaded RGB - again why ?

Transparency in ZB doesn’t work unless you have Flatten layers turned off. If you didn’t do this you wouldn’t be able to see through the plane3D with texture on to the guide beneath it.

When you use the MRGBZ grabber, all you want is the RGB info. Shaded RGB would mean that you would grab exactly what you can see on the canvas, which would be the RGB as it is affected by lighting, including highlights and shadows. With Autocrop off you are able to grab the whole canvas (by dragging the rectangle out),i.e. the MRGBZ tool doesn’t automatically resort to cropping just around the edges of any object on the canvas.

Hi, i know it has been awhile in this thread but i was wondering if someone can help me as well-
I use the 4r8 version and i happen to encounter a problem- i’ve imported a model inside zbrush and its’ texture as well and than after using the protect and attract colors and unwrapping it the texture got all messed up . i’ve tried to adjust it with tool>uvmap>adjust but it takes lot of time and it’s not really accurate…does anyone has any idea how do it better? would really appreciate any thought on the matter…
