Adding Parts/Equipment/etc...

Hey all (hope its the right section to post this),

I have seen extract used for clothes and items closer to the body, but what about adding items like back packs or armor or larger items? would you generally model these items in your 3D app and import into z or would you still build it in zbrush?

Thanks,
Doug

You’d generally do what you’re comfortable with. If you’re comfortable making them in Z, do that. If there’s another application you’re more comfortable in, import them. Certain types of objects are going to be more suited for different toolsets.

that seems to be the impression i have been getting. coming from Maya i am much more comfortable with building my base mesh there, but i am trying to stay open minded to different tools and was curious how the community would handle this.
If you were to add things in z, say a backpack, wouuld you use a zsphere and just append it to your original? or would using extract somehow be feasible in this situation also?

Thanks,
Doug

Personally, I go to the retopo tools readily. They’re a quite effective modelling tool once you’re adept with them.

So, I personally would probably use extract to quickly pull out a big poly blob referenced to the body properly, quickly run over the “Pack” with the inflat brush with backface masking turned on to give it some body, and then retopo it into some decent geometry.

Now, for the hi tech rifle the same character was using, I’d probably go outside Zbrush. Not that you can’t do it in Zbrush, but Im just more comfortable with that sort of object in another application.

Zbrush allows you the flexibility to work as you wish.
