Adaptive skin is rescaling my mesh

After I’m done retopologizing, I’m hitting make adaptive skin, hittin make polymesh3d, and then trying to export an OBJ of the new mesh.

When I bring my new mesh back into Maya it’s way small. Any ideas?

I’m not sure if this applies or not, but I was running into a similar problem with blender. I set up a scene in Zbrush (why in zbrush, I don’t know) and when I ported over the scene to blender, half of the objects were importing half the size. When I look at the objects transformation properties, half of them got imported with a scale of 1, while the rest got imported with a scale of 0.5. I’m not really sure which software was responsible for downscaling half of my objects, but changing the 0.5 to 1 restores the whole scene back in its spot…

I don’t know if that would be the same workaround in Maya.

OK here’s the fix:

After making an adaptive skin mesh, append the skin to the original mesh.
This brings its scale settings back to the original size. I wonder if Pixologic did this on purpose? It doesn’t make a but of sense to me to have some crazy meaningless resize built into the retopology tools…it just adds another step to the process.

I guess they assume you’ll be putting the new skin back onto the original mesh for projection. That would be fine except I’m using xNormal to get my normal maps.

Thanks to Mark Dedecker for letting me know how to get this straightened out!
