Ad Infinitum - 3D Experimental Animation (VIDEO in page 3)

great concept, would love to see the individual pieces animating

interesting workflow, now clients are going to ask for that… thanks

good luck on the film fest.

Crazy… but Great!

Wow very unusual concept for digital sculpting , I saw fractal 2 d images like that but with sculpted planes it give completely another dimension, great idea!!!

congrats on the top row. the video looks awesome, can’t wait to see it finished. and great you showed us your workflow on this fantastic art piece. :+1:

Gotta say this is one very cool use of Z!!

How may tiles have you made or are planning for the final movie?

How long do you think the final movie will be?

How are you animating this? Are you using Maya, or are you rendering each tile and using After Effects or…

beautiful stuff! it looks like an alien computer chip! :grimacing:

Congratulations on top row! I don’t know where you’re from, but here in Croatia we have a tradition of licitar hearts, which are very similar to your designs, like this one here http://www.os-cucerje-zg.skole.hr/upload/os-cucerje-zg/images/multistatic/29/Image/srce.jpg

Nice stuff, Ben! Was wondering when I’d see something pop up from you.

O/MI, earthtriber, KlaNDeR, gpepper, rathour, cani, Gutalin, Etcher, stefanobernardi, Santis, Antimorph, abhominal, Frenchy Pilou, scrum, Morph Division, bryzol, Aliasfx, Al.Tintop, dustbin1_uk, iatriki, cherub_rock, - Thank you so much!

Gutalin - where did you find that image? Wow, that gave me some great ideas. It definitely looks close to the relief style sculpting that I’m doing. Cool!

abhominal- I wrote a little bit about how I put the pieces together earlier in the thread. Does it not make sense? Ooh! I definitely want to make stencils from these! I’m sure they could come in handy if I wanted to design a Mayan computer chip temple. I agree that hard surface geometry would create an interesting look. I already have plans brewing for my next film and it does involve some hard surface sculpting!

Frenchy Pilou - I have each tile expanding by powers of 2. When the object gets large enough to not be seen by the camera, it disappears and starts the cycle again starting at a size of 1 unit. The first time I tried it there was a strange pulsing going through the animation. I later realized it was because the tangents need to be straight, not curved.

dustbin1_uk - I made a total of 40 tiles. The final movie is 2 minutes. That’s why the teaser is soooo short. I’m using Maya and Mental Ray for the final renders.

cherub_rock - cool! Thanks for sharing that image. It definitely has some close similarities to my work. I got a bunch of good ones from a Google search. Thanks!

jbuck - Hey Josh! Yup. Here I am. Hey are you going to do the Dominance War this year? I think I am. Hope all is well at Champlaign!

Very original, very interesting! Great work!!

very cool first thing that came to my mind was alien micro-chips, very very cool work

beautiful work!

chem!

Outstanding, I love seeing philosophy worked out in art, and using incredibly old ideas, re imagining them is really the heart of Art. There is nothing more powerful than drawing on our sub conscious states of emotions and analysis and blending them together in creative ways for me personally, this in and of itself is the highest calling and I might add the playground of creative. Congrats Brad this is thoughtful and imaginative and playful at the same time it’s a beautiful thing indeed. There is much more to Zbrush than we fully realize and thank you for illuminating us all that we only scratch the surface most of the time.

Very cool idea, it was really fun to watch you sculpt! Congrats on the top row as well! Thanks for sharing this with us all!

If that CPU could’ve rendered itself, we would’ve seen this last year

Great job man! 2 questions: how did you cut up those tiles in Z and created the new ones? i suppose all the stitching was more or less faked in maya and compositor?

nice work

booska, wikid, chemkid, davidT, nickz, blambot – Thanks for cheering me on!

davidT - Thanks for such an articulate response to my work. I really appreciate it

blambot - I created the tile in Maya starting with a simple plane. None of the pieces are stitched. Each tile is made of about 200,000 polys so about 95% of the time there is no visible seam. In a few parts of the film there are one or two signs of seams but I think I did a pretty good job of layering other elements over those parts so that they aren’t visible.

Here is a breakdown of how I made some of the 2D plane effects that you see in the beginning of the trailer. Believe it or not, the effect I created in the end started as an an accident

very creative and original
congratulations on the great work

Very nice work congrats!

heey, tell me you“re kidding that you don“t have Mexican Prehispanic influence??!!

That“s AWESOME, the style looks very Mexican at the Mexica Age, before the Aztecs, all the colors and forms looks realllt reallly mexicans, and really looks amazing!

congrats!!

dirkrulz - Thanks!

Astrozombbie - Sure, there is definitely some Mayan, Aztec, and Incan influence. Some of my other influences are King Louis the 14th furniture, the work of Earnest Haeckel and a long line of other artsists too numerous to name…And fractals!

Here is a pic of me at the Gallery 360 Show at Northeastern University. I displayed stills from my film at the gallery!:+1: Eventually I would like to have some of the tiles made into physical models…we’ll see…:bulb:
