Like Aurick, i think all people want learn how you do. I love so much this concept for try something like this with zbrush. I can you upload video in you tube for all community?

hey yfchild - If you click on the link on my signature you will go to a sample of the movie on youtube

Ok, so here’s how I made Ad Infinitum…

o<span class="font0"> </span>"Ad Infinitum" is a sculptural continuum that continuously unfolds before your eyes by revealing finer and finer details emanating from a single point. What you are seeing on the screen is not the camera delving deeper and deeper into the sculpture. The sculpture pieces are actually expanding and the camera is just simply observing it from different angles. Each sculpture piece can be thought of as a perfect square plane with a hole in the center that is exactly half the size of the square. As the square expands, eventually the hole in the center of the square becomes the same size as the original size of the square. By continually expanding the series of squares in a linear procession by powers of two, each piece scales from an imperceptibly small size to an incredibly enormous size with no gap between the squares. This procession is a cycle where the last square in the series seamlessly combines with the first. The sculptural continuum shifts intermittently from three dimensional to a variety of two dimensional designs. These two dimensional images were created by accident while applying colors to the sculptures. I liked the results so much that I decided to process the images and include them in the film.

Here’s a visual aid for what’s happening. Does this make more sense now?

Great stuff! A whole new side of art that we rarely see here. Usually I see character and creature stuff, but when i come across rare gems like these its a treat. Thank you for sharing your process. This is awesome work you have done! :+1:

Thanks Aberrant! You know I do some character/creature sculpting in ZBrush too but I also love using the program fine art and experimental work.

Here is an image I made in ZBrush that inspired me to make the film “Ad Infinitum”…

This is one seriously cool use of zbrush. I’m really looking forward to seeing the final animation. Are you going to make the animation so it loops continuously, or do you have an ending in mind?

Wow, very different use of ZBrush :+1:
I really like it

hey kongni, really nice picture …man i would love to see how you do this kind of stuff…ever thought of doing a timelaps… i would much appreciate…

you begin with rectangle tool of zbrush ¿? which defaut values¿? Subdivide Nivel?6?7? with smt¿? I suppose radial brush ¿? Your prefear alpha for do you work? can you explain little more¿?

These movies don’t work, but i like your stuff!!

movies worked fine for me and its great great work … look forward to seeing more brilliant

Thanks for the kind words, questions, and comments :D.You guys rock!

So after much hesitation I have decided to post some early previs work I did for the film. I think that watching this will reveal more of what the film is about and how my sculpting process worked. You can see it here:

+++Ad Infinitum early previs+++

I’ll record a video of my sculpting workflow soon!

In the meantime…Here’s some of my other earlier works that led to making the film…These are just sort of freeform sketches that I did. Basically, I would just start with a flat polyplane and then go from there with no idea of what I was going to sculpt…

A much darker, more sinister look…

Just in time for Valentine’s Day!—

oh yes brilliant!!! i love the pulse feel of the motion too at almost heartbeat pace and wonderful smooth feel…

fractal-tastic!!!

I love it. Really cool work. Zbrush really has a ton of potential in this type of non-character art, which I think is under-represented here. It’s probably because it’s not often needed in most game/film workflows as far as I can tell.

I should try the whole zooming infinity thing with my “snowflakes”. I guess it could work pretty well with a circular theme too!

Thanks earthtriber! Glad you liked it :D. Sorry about the crappy video quality. I’m still trying to figure out the best upload formats for YouTube.

Last night I made a timelapse video that reveals how I made the tiles for the film, specifically how the tile system works…

Here is a still preview of how the image shapes up…

And thanks Drkdve! We double posted

Thanks so much for sharing the video, its really cool stuff. Only crit is that the camera is not moving linearly, it seems like there is an ease in type thing going on giving it a jerky feel. If you render it with the camera moving on a linear path it will make everything blend seamlessly without any jerkyness to it. Its really not that noticeable, but enough so that I feel it can benefit from that simple fix.

Super updates! Great YouTube vids; great making of, awesome trailer: brought back sweet memories of the hypnotizing Mandelbrot and Julia set explorer - which I played with a lot on the Atari Lynx! Thanks for updating :sunglasses: :+1: .

Hey Aberrant - Yeah, in this version I didn’t touch the graph editor but for the final version I made sure that all tangents were broken and linear. I thought about keeping the pulsing effect but I felt it was too distracting. In the final version the camera flies around the growing tiles and sometimes swoops down closer to the surface.
