So i reprted this to the support team and they are aware of the problem. Here’s the email they sent me.
This is an issue that our team is investigating. It’ll probably be corrected shortly in the update that we’re working on.

awww man, I ran into this problem as well. Just when i got my image planes all set up. If only it was glitched the OTHER way it might be of some use… On the positive note, the mac version is far more stable than when I was working in boot camp. When rotating the object, it would flip out and spin really fast then crash. the camera would also manage to skew itself. I used the shift key to level it back out again. I also managed to get another subdivision out of it.
After trying a time, I found a solution for us poor and neglected Mac-Users.

Obviously, transparency of the active subtool doesn´t word in 3.12 like it should. I just experimented a bit with gabo´s ImagePlane2, and found, that transparency works, if the tool to be sculpted lies INSIDE the planes, that means, it must lie behind the planes.
You have to imagine a box, and the active tool must be inside the box.
It´s not as good as the x-shaped imagetools, but it´s the best what we can get this time.
Hope, it will help somebody,
Greetings,
Stephan
That is a good idea! I’m going to try that right now, i’m pretty sick of switching back and forth thru the subtools.
I´ve got the same proplem … also use a the mac 3.12 … but now I´ll try the next step
gabo, you must be using a pc
im on a mac and i have the same transparency problem
this blows
Try thesnap’s solution. It worked great for me. This kind of problem typically is just a silly programming mistake. It looks like they left out a piece of the code for the slider and such. I remember in Maya 2008, you had to add a quote or something in a file to make the “Optimize scene size” function work.
whats the snaps solution?
thanks
Sorry, I was referring to the poster above
Hello Everyone
Snaps, thank you for showing them this. This is exactly what you need to do with the tool that I made. I’m sorry I should of been more clear. I will put together a tutorial to have here. I made this tool with the intent that the sphere must be in the middle of the two planes. Coming today. Making it right now.

Hello ZBrush Community
I am loading up the ImageplaneX_V3 that I have put together for you. I have also included a pdf so you can follow and see screen shots of my MAC. Hope this helps. Let me know.
Paul
Hi there,
I´m glad, that my little trying has started a lot of action in this transparency-problem, the net is already a fine thing, because a lot of brains can work together…
Paul, thanks for your effort, I just tried to look at your solution, but the download-link you offered, does not work?
Should I have more patience?
Greetings,
Stephan
Hey Stephan
When did you try the download? I just tried it now and it worked fine. Might of been a server issue. Talk to you later.
Paul
Hi Paul,
sorry for late response, I´ve been travelling for business since last week.
This is what appears, if I click your link =>
»This server can only be accessed by the proper referring server.«
Curious.
If it´s not too much effort for you, can you send me the zip to
?
Thanks and greetings,
Stephan
Hi there,
I can’t open this .Ztl on a PC is it Mac only?
I need to set up some image planes for people using a Mac - is the only way to do this on Mac OS.
Thank you for your time.
Best,
James
…a ZBrush-Problem what can only been solved by Macs? :-)))
(sorry for being gleeful)
And, earnest now: I´m just waiting for Gabo´s reply, too

This is only for the MAC version.

Hi Paul,
thanks a lot for your effort. Curiously, on my MacPro the link does not work, not with Safari and not with Firefox.
But! (hehe) I run an old G4, don´t know why, but there it runs.
It´s great, that you wrote a instruction as PDF, that´s very helpful.
I remember my first steps in ZB, it is horrible, if you don´t know how to start…
Have a nice Christmas-time and be patient with me, I have to go skiing these times, that´s sometimes more fun than zbrushing…
Stephan
Hey Stephan
Happy Holidays and be safe.
