ACORIA - new painting. WARNING, disturbing depictions

acoria, the medical term for bulimia

this pic is the image that the western dietary habbits impress on my subconscious. and I mean the stuff we all eat.

a creative new year to all, nonetheless

Darksprite - The Art And Design Of Christos Neofotistos
my renderosity gallery

Disturbing.

VERY cool piece, Christos! :+1:

You make amazing and thought provoking observations with your art --and the work is always the highest caliber…some of your socialogical illustrations should be bought by magazines and or galleries …Tremendous Quality work and imagination !! :+1: :+1: :+1:

I like the lighting as always. You are a master at renaissance lighting. :+1: :+1:

The background is stunning. A subtle dry brush effect.

Basically, your execution is flawless (as usual)

I must say though, that I find the message a bit muddled.

I don’t believe the West’s junk food/fast food is the root of bulimia, but rather the West’s high demand of perfection within the human body (male or female). I would say that shows like “Baywatch” and ANY video on MTV are more lethal.

I believe it’s more of a body image thing.

Now, if you are implying our fast food/fast paced society contributes to this, you may be right. But the message is lost in this piece.

Technically, I keep getting stuck on the pizza hut box. They are perforated to be folded at the corners. Currently bright white (one pass print) with side walls that indent to create a smaller square to the corners. There are no glue joints.

Our burgers no longer come in styrofoam boxes. It’s all paper wrapping. (Of course, maybe our European versions do use those things. I just know our environmentalists went crazy a few years back and banned them due to land fill shortages)

I was trained to believe if an artist is going to hold social, moral or human values up to scrutiny, statement or ridicule, then the piece should be able stand up to the same pressure.

I don’t eat any of that garbage myself.
I have an intimate relationship with Pizza Hut boxes thanks to my son…
:stuck_out_tongue:

(ÈZ) i whish i could mam im not Driving im Riding My BIKE…

whoaaaaaaa…yall got deep with this one…and I must say I love the pic and alot of what you said…and I must agree with Kathy and Ez too…It’s a shame that we are chained to our trashy dietary requirements in our pop soceity…and that as a child we become enslaved to that diet and it eats at us as we eat it…a very unhealthy symbiotic relationship…and then as said somewhat by kathy that we are shown the perfect people and that we should try to look like them…and be them…not knowing that they are really caught up in the perpetuating disease themselves…science tells us its unhealthy to be fat…though our ancestors lived on pork and potatoes…and most lived to ripe old ages…now we are unable to do that…I am rambling…but thanks for provoking thought from me…Nice work…can’t wait to see your next statement on society…     if the depicted baby hadnt been exposed to the evils of the media and peer pressure from those around it, maybe bulemia would been a non existant reality…anyhoo…kewl pic

Christos, this is a wonderful piece of art.
Social comment, through art, is a powerful thing. :+1: :+1: :+1:

a fantastico painting, Christos, in so many aspects… once more: :+1:s to no end for both concept and painting the deranged fastfood driven putto. i wished there would be some unfinished baroque churches with unpainted walls around here, and high domes waiting for you to do the frescoes and to make your disturbing statements for our contemplation

me, i’m starting 2002 in kudosmode thanks to you
