About the thickness for Cloth Simulation

Hello, this is David.
Recently I’m learning about the new features of ZBrush2021.
I saw many of tutorial about the Cloth Simulation and I have a question.

Is there necessary to take thickness(by Dynamic) for a plane before you begin the cloth simulation? it will make the simulation correct?

For my opinion, it’s just increase polygons and make the calculation slower.

Somebody can solve my confusion, please?
