about displacement maps

Hi!

I read tutorial about creating displacement maps here on zbrushcentral. I created displacement map on a simple object like sphere. Worked fine…
Next i loaded my model ( i made coat )and followed same procedure…dang…
I sdiv model,—>detailed.—>checked Uv—>pressed Uv/txr and here my model turns into black…ugh…what now…i played some more and some times press Uv check before and zbrush froze, next time i pressed guvtiles and then uv/txr,…disaplcement map was strange, came out ba din other programs,…

Oh yes,…i imported poser model and on that model i rigged coat…i also tried texture and gave arund 1024 new texture…before applying uv
/txr

Your description is kind of bouncing around a lot, so it’s hard for me to follow. But I’ll try.

Poser models are notorious for overlapping UV’s. ZBrush can’t create displacement maps for that. Any polys for textures other than the one you’re creating at the moment must be hidden before you create a displacement map.

If Uv>Txr turns black, that normally means that no UV’s are assigned to the model. This will be true if you had UV’s disabled and have just now enabled them again. (Disabling UV’s deletes them entirely.) In that case you need to go to level 1 of your model, store a morph target, and then import the original version of your model again. This will restore the original UV’s. Or you can remap the model by applying a blank texture of the desired size to your model and then pressing Tool>Texture>GUVTiles. This must be done at level 1.
