Abnormal Termination

I keep getting Abnormal Terminations every 10 minutes or so, since i updated to the current version of Zbrush, from the Maxon Downloader. is this a known bug, or is there something going on with my PC? ive used Zbrush for YEARS and ive never had it do this so much, so often. and its literally just a Dynamesh Orb currently. i loaded it, got my Drink and it keeps Terminating and closing on me.

Hi @Gremlin

Sorry you’re having some troubles! Technical issues like this will really need to be directed to Support. We can’t conduct technical support over the public forums and other users probably won’t be able to help you with this.

However! If you mean that ZBrush keeps terminating on you while you leave it idle with the screensaver running, this is a known issue currently being investigated. You can disable screensaver in Preferences> screensaver then store the config to keep it from starting up again when you restart the program. This should avoid that issue.

But, if this is a file-specific problem…

If this is just occurring with a specific Subtool or file then the problem is likely to be related to the mesh or file. People often try to do some ambitious things with Dynamesh and this can sometimes result in problematic geometry.

For instance Dynamesh works best with a closed solid with a minimal degree of thickness. If any areas are too thin or 2D, or if the mesh is read as an open volume, the geometry may begin to break apart in that area, creating “swiss cheese” geometry that is likely to be problematic for many functions in ZBrush. Likewise the geometry may be reporting errors with Geometry> mesh Integrity> Check mesh. A severe enough problem being reported here indicates a problematic mesh that may experience crashes or odd behavior when used with any number of other features. This geometry would need to be fixed, or the problem areas identified and resurfaced.

So I would just try to determine first if this is a mesh-related problem, or a general issue. If you can load a stock file like the dog.zpr that comes with ZBrush and work with it without issue, you may have a problem or problems with the mesh in your crashing file. If this happens with any file you try to work with, please contact Maxon Support.

Thank you!
