Ability to install ZB3.5 seperate from ZB3.1?

Maybe jumping the gun here as we wait for ZBrush 3.5 to be released, and/or maybe I missed an existing post on this subject. But, off the top of my head I was wondering if anyone had theories on whether or not ZBrush 3.5 could be installed into a different directory folder than my ZBrush 3.1 AND to be able to still use both versions on my computer?

  • No, I don’t mean both active at the same exact time.

  • Why would I want this? Mostly “just because”. But, I want my old reliable security blanket Zbrush 3.1 around as I dive into a new, hopefully bug-free ZBrush 3.5

Thanks.

Kirk

Well, I had ZB2.5 and ZB 3.x running on the same drive for some time, but that was a different situation, as one did not upgrade directly from the other.

I don’t know if the same OS intall can support two different installs of 3.x. But you could always install on two different machines, or two different OS partitions, and only partially upgrade one with the 3.1 patch. (might want to make sure you have a saved version of the 3.1 patcher now, as it may become scarce after the upgrade is released.

Yeah, I have a backup of the 3.1 updater, no problem there.

Hmm, actually using a different partition sounds like an interesting idea. I have registered Windows 7 I’ve been intending to install on another partition and take for a spin anyway…might try that. just to see how it all flies (or doesn’t, lol)

My Zbrush’s screendraw felt slow in win7 - this was in the win7 beta though.

seemed like the fps was not there when redrawing…

went back to xp and it’s fast again.

dunno if this happens on a lot of win7 pc’s, but i’m just sayin’.

Gotcha. Yeah, I don’t have any great expectations with ZB+Win7, lol.

Just wanted to play around with Windows 7 before the public trial period ends. I think there is like 5 months left right now? Something like that.

Most likely will do the Windows 7 upgrade to my XP, but absolutely not anytime before a SP1 and after I see some more ZB users’ experience documented here.

After looking at my various backups I do now see that I too was using ZB2.5 and ZB 3.0 on the same machine at some point. So, I’ll give it a try with ZB3.1 and ZB3.5. I’ll just be sure to use my acronis imager beforehand, in case I screw the pooch and need to step back.
