Rigging and Topo control to me is enough to call it more than a update
Call it Z3. Those videos are revolutionary for this program. Takes workflow to another level. I wish they would enable the ability to make normal maps from two different meshes not just subdivided. That is what is really needed.
Apologies if the topic of file format has been discussed already re the ZBrush upgrade. But - would anyone have any idea if it will export more than simply obj. Like, maybe dotXSI?
Sorry for my post, I was a bit naive
I suppose animation using zbrush could be possible.
Things like the materials that have been painted on in 2.5d. They would not work with animation would they; I have trouble painting on materials using projection master

Hey Joe I wouldn’t feel too bad. None of the rest of us thought of animating with 2.5d tools. It a great idea!
Yes, no need to feel bad. It’s all opinions and speculations here! And every thought is valid. Brainstorming is valuable.

PS:Is it ready yet?
Wow! I have been away too long! Impossible to catch up but I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this post. Better late than never they say… hee hee. Anyhow thanks Pix this is great I will be looking forward to the newest version. And once again a free upgrade. Gotta find some time to work on some new stuff. Unfortunately lately most of my work has been using several programs so my stuff isn’t exactly ZBrush pure, thus no posts.
I will work on it…:o
Another free update, this is one of the most amazing companies. Your customer support is outstanding…thank you for continuing to work on what is already and awesome program.

So I was wondering what could be Pixologic´s answer to handle the subdivision constructed mess, after Luxologic Modo, Eovia´s Hexagon, not to mention Silo -now I see !
You guys are really innovative and lead the way in 3D modelling -no doubt.
Any wannabe artist can now become a real state of art professionals, thanks to team of Pixologic.
It is impossible to wait the update -and it´s free, god oh mighty.

I would like to place $5 on Aug. the 5th. (the day after Siggy)
I’ll manage the pool when I am allowed to keep the interest till the release comes out .

PS:Are we there yet???
This has been the longest wait of my life! These guys are experts at torture.
Damn straight…
I sure cant wait for the rigging on this program. it seems the fastest/easiest I have seen in any app. any chance there might be a key frame for the new z for animation as well? kinda like how bryce or poser is. if the new update dont come for say another 6 months to a year, any chance we could get a plugin with the rigging
I hope you are all right, after ol sig hopefully the update comes, say aug 1st GRIN
I would love if the Zbrush3 update included a animation setting just like the other 3d programs where you can switch around. I mean, imagine a program that lets you model the person, rig it and at the same time animate it all in the same interface.
Oh and hopefully the rendering system of Zbrush3 gets improved
I fully agree, I dont mind the rendering system though. I am pretty happy with the results I have gotten from the renderer. though I am a newbie at this. atleast for a fact, if there isnt an animation setting like poser or bryce you can still make animated gifs. might be a painful process doing frame by frame. but I will stick with the Z. look forward to the future of z and hope it dont get complicated like maya,3dsmax or xsi. the rigging already pleases me beyond anything I have seen and am dieing waiting to use this new update.
Pixolator was toying around with a nice simple zsphere animation zscript a couple of years ago. He never did get a chance to finish it up so that it could be a “release-ready” zscript, but i’m quite sure that the idea has never left his mind.
After seeing the new zsphere modelling-rig features in the upcoming release, a zsphere animation zscript would be even more wonderful to work with because you wouldn’t be limited to zsphere models alone.
here’s the infamous example of the zsphere animation zscript in action!
also, a little excerpt from the siggraph site…i’m not sure if this information is recycled from last year or if it’s in reference to this year:
A Retooled ZBrush
New features in the popular ZBrush 2D/3D digital art creation application will be demonstrated in the Pixologic booth. In addition to a retooled interface that’s more intuitive and faster than previous iterations of the software, ZBrush2 also offers the ability to edit models in multiple mesh-resolution levels, enabling artists to add low- or high-frequency details on the appropriate level, while ZBrush transfers the changes to other levels. With this version, users also can generate detailed maps for low-resolution base meshes, and hide portions of any mesh, so that they can concentrate on areas of interest. Artists also can use selective hiding to add edge loops and other mesh-enhancement features. In addition, the program will feature nine new sculpting brushes and depth-enabled paintbrushes and tools. www.pixologic.com
that video animation is amazing. its just what I want to do with my monsters. pixo
Hey, isn’t that animation like 2 years old and before ZB2??? Couldn’t you do that with what’s currently available for in ZB2 or even ZB1.5?
I’m pretty excited about developments on all of the products out there, but have eventually realized that I haven’t quite utilized the potential of current or even earlier versions of the software that I use.
Z-Brush, in my opinion, is quite underated or perhaps not recognized for it’s incredible abilities. It is, on it’s own, AWESOME, and as just a tool for adding detail to imported meshes to later be exported for animation or whatever, UNTOUCHABLE!!!
To see Z-Brush grow into a full functioning 3D animation and modeling package makes my brain want to expode!!!
agree on that.
z brush is near to perfection as a modelling and texturing tool (maybe some selection system and some - cough - traditional tool to edit low poly geometry would be of great help tho)
the more i learn about this app, the more excited i am about its features and possibilities.
now its time for animation !!!
I sincerely hope they are not wasting any time on adding any animation features to Zbrush. It is, after all, a paint program, albeit, a totally unique on. That’s why they worked so hard to make zbrush workflows for all the major animation programs. It even works with low-end apps like carrera and poser. I’m sure they are working on making improvements to the 3D workflow. It is, after all, their bread-and-butter. Hopefully, down the line, FBX rigged character import and export will be added.
But I will be more than just happy to get only the new features described on page one of this thread.
