A Few Problems With Retopology (Inc Pics)

Basically I had an old human model that I thought was decent, and wanted to create a base mesh for animation. So instead of creating a new mesh from scratch I figure I’d would try out the retopology tools in ZB 3.5.

I had no problem up until doing the fingers and thumb where I came into an odd error. Baiscally with the finger in the picture below there was no problem with the adaptive skin. (fig.1 + fig.2 below) [Fig 1](http://i43.tinypic.com/1z24078.jpg) In Edit Mode ------- [Fig 2](http://i39.tinypic.com/n6unau.jpg) In Adaptive Skin Mode However when I complete the topology lines for the finger, the adaptive skin gives an error. (fig. 3 + fig.4 below) [Fig 3](http://i43.tinypic.com/2u6nq4h.jpg) In Edit Mode ------ [Fig 4](http://i39.tinypic.com/nfk1on.jpg) In Adaptive Skin Mode I believe this is because as soon as I connect the fourth side of the loop it wants to cap it, and thus the polygon on the outside just doesn't appear. but of course I don't want that. I have tried playing with the retopology and adaptive skin properties and sliders, but nothing is changing, I'm hoping there is something in zbrush which can stop this? As I really don't want any errors in the mesh before iI take it back to Maya. I would appreciate any help that you guys could give greatly!! :D

Thanks

thanks for the reply,

my worry is that i need my topology to be very clean, so adding a fifth row would crate an ngon on the base of the hand most probably.

but if there is nothing in the software to fix it then thats no prob. ill have to edit it in maya afterwards if i cant figure a way out of it.

.

don’t retopologize the fingers, just make the hand, then when you have your adaptive skin done just extrude out the fingers using the edge loop function.

hehe, thanks spaceboy, good tip, didn’t think of it

i have got it sorted now thank to a combination of both of you guys’ suggestions as well as some final tweaking in maya.

quite happy with it, thanks again
