A bunch of really silly questions!

Hi everybody! My name is Annie Belle and I am very new to 3d modeling and zbrush. Therefore, I need some help. If you all would be willing to point me to free, functioning resources, such as HIGH QUALITY THE BEST EVER video/text tutorials and the like (I know about ZClassroom and am devouring that in between explorations in ZBrush), that would be so good. Please be patient with me! I am especially concerned regarding the following:

  1. Yesterday I worked on a dinosaur, and somehow managed to lose symmetry. Is it in any way possible to replicate one side–basically mirror it–without the smart resym tool?
  2. Eyes. I just don’t get it.
  3. Sometimes when I do ZSpheres LIKE Antropus’ tutorial, it turns out to be essentially a big box instead of something pretty and human-like. Is there something I am doing wrong? How can I fix it?

I’ll probably add more as the day progresses. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

came across your post browsing, i think most people post questions in the support forum, you may get better help there. i am very new to zbrush too but will try and help.

  1. I’m guessing you dont want to use the smart resym tool because it seems to take both sides into account when creating a symetrical mesh. maybe you just want to mirror one side exactly like it is. You could try masking one side of the model and then using the smart sym tool, this will mirror only one side of the model. NB: “alt gr +left mouse button and drag” look at the documentation on masking, its easy to follow. If it mirrors the side you dont want, just undo, press “ctrl and left mouse” and then use the smart sym tool again. this will mirror the other side. it will work fine ive tried this one out. remember you can only do this if you havent got multiple sub divisions, if you have delete the higher ones, when you have done it divide your model again. if it goes horribly wrong, it doesnt matter cos you can just load your model again and try again. there maybe an easier way to do this but im new myself so only know this way, unless you do it in another program. to avoid this happening again have multply saves of your model e.g. dino1…5 when you save, save as 1, next time save as 2 etc. have a handful of them, so if you make a critical error you can go back to a previous save;)

  2. not sure what you mean, i have only made heads in other programs but i did notice a brush called “eyes1” drag it on your model to give you a basic eye shape, then maybe scuplt it as you like. look for some tutorials on how to make eyes, ears, etc maybe you will find some good tips

  3. when i did z spheres i used the tutorial of the woman in the documentation. press help to bring it up. in fact there are a couple i think, but more importantly they have pictures so you can compare your model.

p.s. try out the zproject tool its alot of fun, there is a video tutorial on youtube.:D:roll_eyes:small_orange_diamond:roll_eyes:small_orange_diamond:roll_eyes:small_orange_diamond:D

  1. as mentioned just mask off the good side and use smart resym, works best working from lowest levels upward.
it might help if you would explain why you don’t want to use that.
  2. um, again, confused, but many people create eyes using a polysphere and append it, move it into place using transpose and then use subtool master to mirror it.
  3. most likely what you are experiencing is due to the mres settings in the adaptive skin menu, i suggest you toggle them and play with the sliders a bit to see how they function.

Thank you so much, guys. It really means a lot.
