4R6 Dynamesh filling shelled object

In 4R5 I was able to Dynamesh-Shell an object, and could then subtract out a wall or floor of that shelled object using another object (as in the cylinder of a finger hole through a ring). That would leave a perfectly shelled part of a ring.

(I was subtracting the SubTool geometry by selecting the Boolean Subtract icon, then going to Polygroups-Group As Dynamesh Sub, and then MergeDown into one SubTool, then Dynameshing.)

Now, in 4R6, using the same method as before, Dynamesh fills in the Shelled object… Not good for jewelry workflow.

Can anyone offer suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong, or how to adjust my workflow to accomplish what 4R5 could do?

Thanks!

If anyone stumbles across this problem I think I figured out what 4R6 does differently than 4R5…

It seems that 4R5 would Dynamesh-Shell a SubTool, but leave it as one PolyGroup. 4R6 is creating multiple PolyGroups of a SubTool after Dynamesh-Shelling. After a 4R6 Shell, make sure the SubTool is one PolyGroup, then the Boolean subtract technique ( http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/creating-meshes/dynamesh/with-subtools/ ) should work fine…
