I have a real problem! When I launch 3DSMAX realease 3.0, the interface wont show! Before, it worked fine, after a while without using 3dmax, I decide to go back and now, I cant use it. I start the program, I see the box with the text under saying its initialising the software, etc, etc, then everything diseapear and I just see my desktop. I uninstalled it, cleared the registry, re-installed it and the problem is still there. I had the same problem last year, but I had to reformat my hard drive for some other reason, then reinstalled my software, 3dmax included and it was working fine. Now, the trouble again!

What must I do? I dont feel for reformating my drive 3 or 4 time a year!

may be it is the graphic driver not compatible with your graphic card.
try to lunch 3dsmax with this switch

3dsmax -h.

do a shortcut of the executable edit it and after “c:\3dsmax\3dsmax.exe” add “-h” and lunch it. you will have a dialog box for choose your graphic driver, choose “heidi” by default.

here some other tips. and a little correction to the post from Fouad B.

first the correction: choose “software rendering” and not heidi when you start 3dsmax with the -h option.

  1. when u enter the taskmanager, do you see 3ds max running there? -> when u can see the 3ds max running. check your gfx drivers ( as stated from Fouad B.)

  2. did you use two monitors before that problem happened? -> connect another monitor, maybe it’s only the window that is on the wrong monitor.

  3. do u have installed new plugins just before that prblem showed up? -> uninstall plugin

  4. is your 3ds max license still valid?

  5. check the discreet forum for your problem. when u dont find an answer post a question there.
