3D Prints for Museum Exhibit

Hi everyone,

I’d like to show a series of sculpted heads entitled Poly-faces that I 3D printed for a recent art exhibit. The work is part of a larger exhibit named ID:ENTITY Self: Perception + Reality at CAM Raleigh, a museum here in North Carolina. The installation includes the 7 sculptures and an accompanying video of the process.

I have posted a few close ups of the work and the links below have some of the installation shots from the opening reception.

I started working on them near the end of this past summer. Having that deadline was good because I really wanted to work more with digital sculpting in Zbrush and working on these for the exhibit made me jump in with both feet. All the models started as spheres, so Dynamesh and the 3D exporter were really helpful in finalizing the models.

I’m always fascinated by the quality of the work that I see on here. Much of my work has been in traditional fine art that incorporates digital media in some part of the process, and it has been great to use Zbrush as a part of my new works. I hope that you enjoy them!

Very nice work!!! I also like the paintings you have on your website! I’ll have to check out your exhibit!!!

Nice prints! how big are these btw? look rather small considering the stair-stepping.

Great job on capturing the ethnic characteristics that make up the human race in your sculptures,…Beautiful job done on them…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)
Really like your painting style and paintings also…Great stuff…:):+1:

Sazdum - Thanks Sazdum! I hope that you do get a chance to check it out.

MikeANash - Thanks! Each one is 6 inches tall. Later, I’d like to send a new sculpture out to print in a different material and at a higher resolution. For the ID:ENTITY exhibit, I like the pure matte white and the striations in the surface. Also, I never would have been able to print them at that size had I sent them out to be printed at a service bureau.

SpiritDreamer - Thanks I appreciate it. My plan is to integrate the painting and sculpts more.

Great! The higher the resolution, the smoother the finish will be. What about the materials? Are you also planning to print it in nylon or T-glase filament?
