No denying that the Solus D is impressive for the money. First fruits of the trickle down effect of technology no doubt, but it’s limitations make it essentially useless for the kind of work were seeing here as the print area is barely 2" x 1" @25 microns. Not saying it’s impossible but you’d have to cut your model up into very tiny pieces and manually graft it all together in order to get even a passable facsimile of what Des is cranking out for frankly pennies. Then you’re responsible for painting it yourself too.
Honestly Des, I understand you haven’t peeked in here in a while but after stumbling upon this thread early this afternoon and subsequently wasting away the remainder of my weekend thoroughly reading it from beginning to end, I can’t help but comment on how amazed I am by both the quality and affordability of your service, but also your evident wealth of character. I literally just joined the forum to comment on that. I feel I have actually learned quite a lot about what to expect and how to approach my future project.
I am an industrial designer by trade. Powersports to be precise. Motorcycles and atvs to be even more specific. But my first and undying passion had nearly always been character design and comics. though I realize it might be taboo to mention this in a Zbrush forum I have been teaching myself Mudbox as I am fairly proficient in Autodesk Alias and the interface seems much more familiar to me. The point is I was hoping to learn this news medium mostly to expand my arsenal on a personal level, however if there were a way for me to potentially supplement my income by selling a limited number of physical statues created from my digital work, I may have more incentive and justification for the time investment necessary to make it happen. This thread has given me that incentive.
I should comment on how incredibly impressive the artwork you all have created is. The statues are amazing but the design and modelling is where the real talent lies!
