3D printing help!!

Hey there,

This is a question from a group of students at Summer Arts. We are designing toys and printing them as .STL Binary files. But we are having some trouble/printer issues. We are wondering what the proper mesh we should have to print? For example…are there problems with intersecting geometry? (having teeth stuck inside gums as a separate tool…etc.) Also, can you have open geometry? We are having some serious problems.

you can’t have any manifold errors. Manifold errors are from open geometry. It needs to be “water tight”

If you look at any site that does 3d printing you’ll see all the tech specs on what can, and can’t be in a mesh. As well as ways to fix it, and get more sculptures out of your printer.

Having geometry pushing through one another is fine as long as they are both closed meshes.

Have you take a look at the tutorial in ZB classroom. It gave me a lot of insight into what to do.
