3d Print Exporter Values Incorrect?

I had my hollowed out Sketchbot .STL imported in Magics to verify dimensions, and my contact said it came in tiny when I specifically stated “inches” as my preferred unit system. The character is set to W=2.52", H=3", D=1.61"

I then tried exporting another by switching to “mm”, imported both into Maya and got the following results (see attached image)

Maya’s working unit and grid set to inches, default cube 1 unit (inch) verified. The character on the left was output as inches, and the character on the right was output as mm - they seem to be swapped? Also, the accompanying “world” node has no effect, though each character’s scale comes in at 0.1 in X,Y,Z. So, it seems that the “mm” output is actually correct at 3", and the “inches” output looks to be the “mm” units.

Has the output from ZBrush been implemented backwards by mistake?

Thanks,
-Steve

I’m looking at this problem right now.

I just did a test and everything was fine on my side with both mm and inch units.

Did you clicked on “Udpate Size Ratio” button first in 3D Print Exporter?

Yeah, that’s what was odd, because I was methodical in updating, then saving with the appropriate unit in the filename.

I was also using Shapeways as a size confirmation, as you get the dimensions once it’s uploaded. I ended up trying again from scratch and it worked the 2nd time round, however, I can’t say that it is consistent.

Over a year later, and this problem is still not fixed as far as I can tell.

I exported a .wrl file then had to change the .jpeg to a .jpg and update the wrl file in a text editing program so Shapeways would recognise it, then zip the jpg and wrl into one file, then upload it.

I really wish Zbrush would give the option to export it in a form that wouldn’t require all those extra steps. But MUCH more importantly, the size I exported was 2 inches tall. But, Shapeways thinks it’s 1.5 inches tall.

So, I exported an stl, and brought it into netfabb studio, and it too thinks that the model is only 1.5 inches high. So, that means there is something wrong with the 3D print exporter.

3D printing is the sole reason I purchased Zbrush, I really hope someone from the company looks into this and fixes it.
