3d Print exporter issue.

Zbrush 3.2 Mac OSX (10.5.8) Mac mini w 3 gig ram

I did a few searches, but came up empty, hence the new topic.

I am hoping to use ZBrush to create figures for 3D printing. I have seen some impressive examples on the forums, but I am having a problem.

I use 3D print exporter to size my object (Main and subtools) and export to VRML. This is the format that the exporter and the service bureau have in common. The service provider is Shapeways.

I was using a fairly simple object to start, a spindly hand. I sized it to 40mm in the longest dimension, and let the exporter update the other dims. Then exported to VRML format.

Uploaded to shapeways, and got a message that the object was to big to print! 400cm!

I tried to fool either Zbrush or Shapeways by scaling the hand to 0.4mm in the longest dimension. Hooray! it’s printable, but is 400mm long!

Why is this scaling error of 3 decimal places happening?

Thanks

Hi Datto,

This is a strange problem and I never heard of that.

Inthe Tool >> export menu, what scale do you have?

Can you send me by email your Tool and Subtools to check it? I pm you my email.

Thanks for the reply Totyo.

In the export menu,
scale is 1
Offset X 0
Offset Y 0
Offset Z 0

Would you like to see the .ztl file or the VRML file?

Thanks again

The ZTL please

I looked again at what files Shapeways accepts, and also in common with print exporter is .stl. Upload and scaling were successful  Here it is in the Shapeways site if curious. Pretty reasonable price too. $2.94 before VAT and shipping instead of almost $3000.00 like it was before
