3.5R3 navigation trouble

I’m having some weird problem with the navigation. Zbrush keeps zooming out randomly when I’m sculpting. I noticed this before, but now it’s getting on my nerves, and it seems to be getting worse.

Has anyone else noticed this? And is there something I can do about it?

btw. Sorry for posting this here, but questions and troubleshooting seems to be locked.

Also, sometimes I suddenly have 1 or 2 dropped tools on my canvas and have to clear the layer to be able to continue sculpting.

Try turning off Preferences>Edit>Auto Select SubTool. If that helps the store the configuration (Shift+Ctrl+i). If you can’t work without being able to select a subtool by Alt+clicking on it then try adjusting the Prefernces>Interface>Click Time.

Why are these two completely different features tied so closely together? Isn’t there a way to disable the zooming quirk all together? Or can I put subtool selecting under different modifier key?

There really isn’t a way to set the click time setting in such a way that you could easily select a subtool and never have random jumps in navigation.

Thanks Marcus, that did the trick.

You can’t assign a different modifier key. What you can do is use a macro to select the subtool, and assign a hotkey of your choice to that.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Put the attached file in the ZStartup\Macros\Misc folder.
  2. If ZBrush is running press Macro>Reload All Macros.
  3. You should now have a button called 'Auto Select SubTool in the Macro>Misc submenu. Assign a hotkey to this button.

To use, hold the cursor over the subtool you want to select and press the hotkey. There’s no need to click the mouse or pen.

Thanks Marcus!

that’s awesome marcus. actually feels a lot more stable than the default alt click method. much prefered. thanks heaps
