3.5 R 3--The Topology has changed message/texture invisible

I imported a maya obj into zbrush 3.5 r 3 and I get this message saying the topology has changed–and to click yes or no if I want high resolution details transferred to it. Since I havent imported the mesh into zbrush before…what does that message mean?

Also when I drag the tool on the canvas
the object flies off into the stratosphere. I didnt notice that happening when I imported the same object into zbrush 3.1.

And I tried importing a texture–I cant see it in the view. I tried fiddlign with the render options, stillc ant see it as I usually did when doing the same operation in 3.1.

uuuhhh

Maybe freezing transformations before exporting the obj will get rid of the flying tool thing.
Nope.
I guess I should just ignore it and the topology message.

Now to find my missing texture colour map.

solved the other issue but my textures are still invisible
so are the default ones in the texture palette

I try different render settings–still not showing.
no textures–just the material.

Help

please

textures still invisible

kgg - What do you mean the textures are invisible? I’m fairly sure if you import a texture it should appear straight away, although I’m no pro. The reason it was asking about the topology changing is because you had a tool selected and you were importing a new mesh ‘over’ that tool, therefore it would be effecting the base topology.

When I import n obj. and then go to the textures menu and import a texture, it doesnt show up on the model in the viewport. I try sticking on a default texture-it is still not showing up visiblbe n the model.

Actually
it also happens with the default sphere.
I load the program and go to the textures and stick on the wood or gradiant
and it doesnt show on the sphere–it stays red.

No textures visible.

still no textures

It’s a long shot, as I’m a noob, but go into the Texture Map sub-palette under the Tools menu and click the button New From UV Check button located on the Texture Map palette and then click on the small square in the upper-left hand side of the Texture Map palette.

A fly-out menu should appear with the current selection of textures. Choose yours and it should now appear.

As for the object that flies off, have you tried clicking the Frame button to bring it back to the canvas window?

Thanks!
It almost worked!
It did show the texture but its all weird-like meshed together and flipping the V didnt work.
Hmm
but at least I know we are getting close.

Yeah I already resolved the flying object issue.

When you say it almost worked, are you referring to the texture of your creation?

Have you tried texturing one of the default poly-meshes to see if that texture is “weird-like”?

You know, if it works properly with a newly-made object, then the problem probably exists with your original creation.

I’m just sayin…

Yes-the texture did show up-but it looks all warped and not following the UV layout-or rather in that little preview window when i hit the uv check thing-it made all the uv shells wrap together and overlap. So on the model it does the same.
I tried it with the polysphere–the same thing happens.
I cant add a texture to the polysphere when I load the program either.

Ok I got it to work.
I followed your advice but instead of clicking on new from UV check

I just went to the square and clicked it to get the texture

it looked funny because I didnt have the V flipped.

Strange that it doesnt work from the top menu.
Oh well.
Thanks for the help Aurick jr
