3.5 polygroups and Maya format export issues

I found 2 issues regarding polygroups in 3.5

When you import the attached torus Obj (which has 3 different UV tiles) and create polygroups from Uvs

Zb 3.1 create 3 polygroups (good)
Zb 3.5 create only 2 polygroups (bad)

the second issue is related to the .ma import :
i can’t import Maya groups (sets) or Materials as polygroups in Zbrush 3.5

the third issue is related to the .ma export from zbrush.
import the sphere.ma, then export is in .ma
in maya, the sphere is now translated by 100;1 in X and rotated by 90 in Y
It’s no big deal. I only have to set it’s tran and rot values to 0 in Maya.

Hi,

If you have your UV groups next to each other in UV tile space, going from uv tile 0,0-1,1 and to the right, then ZBrush 3.5 can detect polygroups based on UV groups.

Did you try turning on Preferences > ImportExport > Import Mat as Groups ? With it turned on I automatically get polygroups in ZBrush for the materials I have assigned in Modo 401.

Can’t help with .ma files but would just mention .obj import/export between Modo and ZBrush is working without any size/rotation/position errors.

Thanks for your help TVeyes.
It seems to be an issue with UV groups only when there are Uv group with NEGATIVE Y value.
Tiling UVs horizontally like you did works fine.
