3.5 on OSX - What's the deal?

Having been away from the ZBrush community for a few months due to work obligations, I figured it’s high time I’d check in to see what the status is with 3.5 for OSX users. Wasn’t it supposed to be released by now? I guess the concurrent platform release strategy Pixologic spoke of is a no-go?

So with all due respect, what’s the word Pixologic?

I was supposed to be released ‘simultaneously’ with the PC version…

It does seem kind of strange the delay. Obviously there is an issue with 3.5 as has been seen with some of the comments but how come they slipped by the beta testers if they are so serious?

Perhaps the testing is being done by too small and a too specialised group that these issues seem to crop up during each release. They dont do it to annoy us thats for sure. It makes no sense to annoy customers on purpose.

Its now 2 months since 3.5 was released as of today. I am guessing at this rate 3.5 will either not materialise for OS X as v 4 is closer to finished or 3.5 will arrive and 4 will be sometime in the first half of 2010.

All we can do is wait and hope one day all legitimate users can beta test the final stages of each development round instead of the release and oh dear that we get at the moment.

I saw 100000000 threads like this since Z2 or even Z1.5 was released. All are going absolutely nowhere - no one knows anything, Pixologic dont want to share any info for whatever reasons they got… It is better to concentrate on something else and one day be surprised. Honestly.

I bought my copy early September 2009, and the sales guy I spoke with said v3.5 for osx would be out by the end of September 2009, and v4 end of 2009.

Since then the same sales guy said that they were focused on finalizing v3.5 for PC, and then they would migrate to osx. At that point he pointed out, that it usually takes the dev team 30 days after PC release for osx to be available. Well I’m new to ZBrush, and I have quickly learn that their “30 day” might as well be “300 days.”

I also know that complaining in posts like this is useless, but as users thats pretty much all we have. Once again, being new to ZBrush and all, I do feel that pixologic is very disorganized in many ways; their documentation sucks, the way the software gets upgraded its retarded. I certainly don’t want to have multiple folders of multiple version of ZBrush in my apps folder, why can’t they create an installer like everyone else.

Anyway, I’m just a hobbyist, and spending $600 on a software that’s so poorly supported, upgrade, and documented, I just wish I could get my money back.

Ahhhhhhhhh! The silence is deafening me. Please Pixo, throw us a bone. Are we looking at this month? Next month? Whatever the news is, we can take it. But please deliver some news so I can stop checking here before bed and first thing in the morning before coffee. I am kind of excited about this release.

don’t hold your breath guys. I remember it took over 1 year from v3 to be released for the mac after PC version. Funny thing is that I’ve heard many people state that ZB runs better on OS X, but the user base sways heavily towards the windows crowd.

The thing that gets me is that they seem to be the only company that supports multi-platform OS that doesn’t release their software simultaneously. It’s very frustrating and they also said they wouldn’t even provide OS X users with windows licenses for those of us who run intel macs, which is what they did with v3. of course with v3 I didn’t even own an intel so I was screwed.

I’m hoping that with the influx of mudbox users they may in the future be forced to up their game to keep their market share where they want it. Mudbox is still in it’s infancy and not as refined, but with it’s 3D camera, simple UI and hotkeys that coincide with maya, once it is up to speed it’s going to be amazing.

truthfully, I haven’t been using ZB that long, but I can do pretty much anything in 3.2 I could do in 3.5 when I tested it at a friend’s house, short of ZSpheres, surface noise and the new brushes they added.

At this point I would say to work on refining your skills instead of wasting energy bitching at the developers who don’t seem to care to respond. Maybe they assume we’ll just download torrents of 3.5 for windows if we can’t wait

Make sure email is correct in the support center and in your customer records if your main email has changed since you bought ZB. ZB 3.5 (at least for the PC) required new license keys and it was just about impossible to miss it when it came out. No need to check here daily or clutter up the forums with “Where’s the OSX version?” posts. The last annoucement (when ZB 3.5R3 came out in December) was that it is in development (along with ZB4, GoZ PC, etc., etc.)

I’d hardly call the 4-6 current threads (out of many hundreds) where this issue is discussed enough to merit the term “clutter”. Given they’re one of the few ways for Mac customers to express our concern over the situation, they’re likely to continue until Pixologic meets their commitments to Mac customers. If you aren’t interested in reading about the issue, then don’t read the threads.

Many of us do not consider switching to Windows an acceptable option, and therefore expect Pixologic to live up to their commitments, and deliver us the same features on Mac that were delivered for ZBrush on Windows. Since they have yet to do so, as customers we’re just inquiring about the situation in the appropriate venue.
