This might be a stupid post/question, but when is 3.5 coming out for Mac? For the life of me I can’t find any info pertaining to it being released soon, or even if its out now. any help?
It was supposed to come out in September, I think, but is not out yet.
I check every day hoping that I can get my hands on zspheres2 and hard surface brushes. At least we got goZ. . .
Plus 3.2 already has many of the underlying improvements of 3.5 for windows. Not to mention that the plug ins are up to date. It’s actually a great version of ZBrush!
I won’t lie though, I’m also itchin’ for those new tools! VERY glad to have a good version with GoZ though

There was a flurry of activity leading up to the 3.5 release for the PC. Demo videos, feature sets and then two releases of 3.5.
It is annoying to see all of these ZSketch threads knowing that us Mac users can’t even use this feature.
C’mon Pixologic. Where is our release.
Also, who do they not incorporate updates to their plugins with each new release. By the time all of the plugins are updated then Zbrush 4.0 will be out and then we will be waiting for the updates to the plugins again only to realize that 4.12 will be coming out.
Get your act together and give us a full featured release and make sure that both PC and Mac are released. Like every other software company in the world.
I love ZBrush but for Chr*&% sake, get it together.
It seems kind of silly that you’re bitching about things that are given to you for free. Full version upgrades, plugins, all free.
They’ll release it when they are done. Pretty sure that they don’t just sit around playing minesweeper all day while a finished copy of 3.5 mac sits on their desktop waiting to be uploaded.
Bottom line, after 15 years of using high-end graphics software, Pixologic is easily the best company I have come across. Deal with Autodesk for awhile, and you’ll see what terrible customer service is.
Hey Josh,
I have dealt with Autodesk since the Release 4 version on Dos. Though I have to pay for upgrades I am guaranteed software releases that I can use in production.
Please don’t harp on the fact that each release of ZBrush is free. I paid for my first release. It is Pixoligic’s choice to release a new version for free.
The problem is that those of us who use the software for commercial applications do not mind paying for upgrades. What is frustrating for me is that you get used to using a Zbrush along with the plugins for commercial use. A new version comes out with features that you want to use but cannot use the version because the plugins won’t work or are not supported. Worse yet, if you are a mac user you cannot even use the new features that are being flaunted all over the web.
At least with Adobe, when CS5 comes out, I know that I can use it right away in production.
Don’t get me wrong, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ZBRUSH, but I do not like their procedures for releasing updates.
Yea, don’t get me wrong, my post came off a little snarky, but I feel your pain.
That’s just what I keep telling myself while I’m having to wait.
They obviously have some big issues with the Mac version for it to be delayed so long, I keep hoping for at least an announcement, I have a feeling that we’ll be waiting a lot longer. . .
On the other hand, like you said, the release needs to be reliable to work in a production pipeline, and I don’t want them to release a buggy product just to get it out at the same time as the PC version.
From your post, I assume you’re a max user? I was referring to Autodesk’s handling of Maya, which has been abysmal since they bought it from Alias.
GoZ?
I agree that simultaneous plugin and version releases would be good though. Either way, I’m just happy to be happy with 3.2 in actual production. Stability and having the main tools available are what’s most important. The bells and whistles will come when they come.
When they do I’m going to lose my mind though. I’ll probably disappear for a few weeks and look like a hungover bum when I stumble out of the cave adjusting my eyes to sunlight.
Yeah, I’m just getting kind of annoyed with having to wait for something that should have been released concurrently with its PC counterpart. I’m falling way behind and I’m getting too anxious to the point where I’m actually thinking about just building a PC so I can keep up. Sorry if this comes off as kind of whiney, but I would really like to see something soon. can’t wait around forever.
Instead of building a PC, why don’t you use Boot Camp ?

by this time any news would be appreciated though
Thanks
I absolutely appreciate all of the toys that have been released to us over the years without additional cost. Still it is irritating when a company claims there will be platform parity with software releases and they fail to meet their own stated goals. As stated earlier, Adobe does an excellent job of releasing multi-platform software. Other companies have a mixed record with this. Pixologic is hardly the greatest offender when it comes to this.
I use the PC version at work and love sketching with the new ZSpheres. It just kills me that when I get home on my Mac I can’t continue working. Hope to see Mac 3.5 released soon.
I have a feeling the next release of ZBrush for Mac will be 4.0.
ZBrush 4.0 release date was originally estimated for the 3rd/4th quarter of 2009.
I just get the feeling that Pixologic are working hard on ZBrush 4.0 and will skip 3.5 for Mac.
Either way I look forward to the update of my favorite software app.
It certainly would soften the “bite” of having to wait so long, and also be in keeping with how they handled 3.12 (where they clearly meant well w.r.t. giving us the new mapping code first). Given how 3.12 actually turned out, though, if they do release ZB4 on Mac first, I hope they also provide at least the level of turnarounds for fixes they did for 3.5 on Windows.
Pixologic have explicitly said 3.5 for mac will be released before 4.
I think this will be the case as I suspect that given the time taken to get 3.5 working with 3 RCs, it will be late in the year before zbrush 4 will be released and they wouldn’t take that long for the mac (even given their history of releasing mac updates). A lot of the changes in 3.5 are in 3.2 anyway.
As a mac user and having seen multiple announcements come and gone then nothing coming out of it the sooner 3.5 comes out the better.

Any update on when the Macintosh Demo version of the software will be available? I am dying to check this out because I think we could use it where I work.
No
Well people… kindness didn’t work, begging didn’t work, bribery didn’t work, so maybe this will.
I’ll supply a day-long hooker to each programmer at Pixologic if they can get the friggin’ lead out. I will however not provide contraception or HIV testing.
Then of course I’d have to sell out and hire the paparazzi to bust in on them and take scandalous photos so we can blackmail them into never doing this filthy $#!^ to us Mac users ever again. I feel like driving a dump truck full of rotting cadavers into the front entrance of their building and release a cornucopia of mangled torsos from the animal kingdom’s recycling underbelly.
Somebody please locate these misfits, chain them to a Mac, give them a liquified cocaine drip, a feeding tube administering pure caffeine extract, jolt, and vitamin C, a crate of Pall Mall’s, and a pack of adult diapers EACH. And porn, lots of porn, but only audio (oh yeah big boy, get that Mac code written and I’ll let you defile me with ZSpheres). Ya know, so they can keep their eyes focussed on the code.
Things like this make me wish Mudbox would get up to speed so I don’t have to ever pay Pixologic another damn cent. This is not how you treat paying customers, geniuses. I’d like you to name one other company that makes industry-standard software that staggers their Mac releases this long. Oops, I forgot, you’re the only one.
I have no more words left for these people that won’t get me kicked off this forum so pretty please, from the bottom of my bowels, just give us our damn app.
