3.5 crashing when saving document

Okay, this is getting old. I’m in the middle of a project, I have around 7 different documents saved as I progress, now 3.5 is crashing when I attempt to ‘Save’ or ‘Save As’. I have to go way back and start again with a document that will load. I have just discovered the ‘Auto File Recovery’ and will give that a try, but it says it is not compatible with all Windows configurations. I have XP. I have turned some layers off before saving, could that be an issue?? Ideas? Rich.

could be.

file crashes happen typically when pushing your machine to massive amounts of cached RAM. When saving a tool that is getting up there.
ALWAYS…

-save at the lowest SubD on all tools
-Remove all masks from subtools
-have all parts of every tool visible (no hidden geometry)
-let zbrush think for a second after doing all of that.
-then save as.

The only times I’ve ever seen Zbrush crash during saving is from pushing Zbrush to handle more than the system can take. The same thing applies to ztools that get over 500mb or so. It’s really no different than using Photoshop. At some point you need to start collapsing layers or breaking up the file into smaller chunks.

Not really that helpful for your current situation, but I think this should help you in the future.

Hey, thanks for your response. Yeah, I’m thinking it is ram. I have dual 2gig cores with 4 gigs of ram and have the biggest document I’ve used with 4 layers. I’ll try combining some of that and see what happens. Thanks much. Rich.
