3.5 Crashing consistantly with lazy mouse

3.5 has been freezing up on me so often now I might have to go back to 3.1. After dozens of attempts to isolate what I’m doing, I’ve finally managed to figure out what sequence of events causes the freeze-ups to occur.

Fresh zBrush session. Take polysphere 1 and divide it to level 5. Adjust standard brush draw size to 3. Turn on Lazy mouse, and set lazy smooth to 0 and lazy radius to 1. Begin making quick hash strokes alternating between add and sub (via alt key). Back and forth maybe fifty clusters of each type stroke. Bingo. Freeze-up. Attached is a print-screen cap about four strokes before the freeze to demonstrate what I was doing.

This is an absolute killer for me. I’m am so afraid of crashing now that I’ve taken to saving about once every three minutes. You just can’t work like that. And I have to use lazy mouse, because the standard brush without it is just a row of dots.

I was not able to replicate this with your procedure. Tried for about 5 minutes. I just got done with about an 8 hour Zbrush session making heavy use of Lazy mouse, with no issue.

Other people are reporting the same issue though. You’ll probably want to make your advanced system info (probably a DX Diag report) to Pixologic so they can find a commonality with people experiencing this.

Dang, I was hoping it would occur across many different systems. Little chance of getting it fixed otherwise. For the record, I have the following:

Intel core 2 quad cpu Q9000 @2 ghz, 4 gigs of ram, windows 7, 64 bit, ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4650 graphics card

I don’t doubt you…like I said, other people have reported the same thing. If you look back a page or so, you’ll find another thread on it. I simply haven’t encountered it.

I’ve also had this happening. I havent had it happen very often.
But i just made sure had plenty of gigs on C:and set my tool undos to around 10.

Its one of those bugs you cant reproduce always, unless you use zbrush for whole day its bound to happen at least once.

Hey Scott,
How do we go about sending the DX Diag thing you spoke of as I’m getting lazy mouse hanging zbrush 3.5r2 typically 3-4 times a day every day.

Make a support ticket with the new support system, describe your issue in detail, and submit a dxdiag report. To get one, type “dxdiag” in in the “run” section of your start menu, let the utility run, and save the report as a text document to attach to your Report. (google for more specific directions for your OS).

Pixologic can correct me me here if they dont want the reports, but I figure an official issue report with system info has got to be more useful than anecdotal evidence when it comes to figuring out why some people are bothered by this, and some people don’t seem to be.

Also, in the other thread, the majority of people seemed to have 3.1 brushes installed, but that may be neither here nor there.

Yes, this has been happening to me lately. It’s very random, but definitely related to lazymouse. I use lazymouse practically all the time, especially because of the dotted strokes effect that the standard brush creates. Set your lazy smooth to 0 and lazy radius to 1, and lazy step to something low. Play around with it turned on and zbrush will eventually hang. Very VERY frustrating.

Anyone got this problem with with align cursor to surface off ?

Kravit, I still have freezes with -align cursor to surface off- but far less frequent…like after 30-40 minutes instead of every 5 minutes…Thanks !

anyone figure this out?? Its getting to the point that i cant even work anymore. i can only save so often.

Three times this morning. Hopefully they’ll address this soon.

This happened to me as well. Geesh there is some bugs in 3.5v2 or what? No custom interface and now this? Ugh. I hope they fix this in 4 because I love everything else about the program and new features.

I was unable to replicate the crash using your steps…though I did have lazy mouse on the Standard brush hang ZBrush on a head mesh last night twice within about 15 minutes.
