3.2 Normal map creation problem

I’m using 3.2 for osx, clean install, with factory hardware for the imac.

When I click create normal map in the tool palette, I just get a blank blue screen for the normal map.

Here’s the workflow:

I take the subdiv level that I want to map applied to, delete lower subdivs.
Make a new 2k texture map, then click the create normal map.

Obviously I’m doing something wrong…

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Difference maps (normal and displacement) are created based upon the differences between the current subdivision level and the highest level. Your workflow means that there are no differences, which is why the map isn’t showing anything.

After sculpting the highest level, you need to go to level 1 and create the normal map while at that level. Do not delete any levels.
