3.12 OS X no turntable export?

After rendering a turntable and going to the Movie menu there is no export button:

I can save it out as a ZMV using the Save As dialog. What step am I missing?

This is a feature that’s not in 3.12, but will be back later.

3.12 is a transition version. There are a few items like this that will make a reappearance with 3.5.

Aurick,

Thanks for clearing that up. It would be really helpful to have a list of missing features to minimize questions like this one. I hope you guys consider making one.

Is there an external converter for the zmov format to quicktime or other?

Coalmarchtom,

Not that I’ve been able to find.

Hey guys…

I have an interview tomorrow morning Monday the 27th, and I just found out that my cool new OSX version of Zbrush can’t export turntables…
I have contacted Zbrush… but I guess they aren’t around on weekends…

Does anyone have any idea on how to get the ZMV file out and into a quicktime?

thanks

bri

The only recommendation I have would be to record the movie and then play it back while running a screen capture program such as FRAPS or Camtasia.

HEy there…

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately FRAPS looks like it only runs on windows and Camtasia cost 250 bucks… I just spent 700 on Zbrush, it;s crazy that i can;t export a movie… I tried a bunch of free capture programs online but they all crash or Zbrush crashes as soon as I hit the turntable button…

oh well…

Thanks for the help.

Bri

that is so awesome I don’t even know where to begin.

Maybe iShowU?

I haven’t used it yet with ZB, but I use it for a lot of other things on OSX.

Edit: Test iShowU and it captures ZB screens quite nicely.

I had the same problem so I have resolved using Jing.
Jing is a free software for make screencasting
Give a look at this:
MantideHead_Turntable SWF version

Don’t know about Jing on OSX, but for those that haven’t heard of it…

Screenflow - previously owned by Vara software and now by Telestream, absolutely rocks. I have made time lapse speed painting movies in Photoshop that were recorded from 25+ hours worth of painting, all with zero crashing and smooth sailing with only 2 gigs of RAM. I've literally recorded my work for a solid 50 hour week with no problems at all, and the quality of video and editing is great.

It does cost $99, but it's quality for sure, has a good OS X feel (got two 2008 Apple Design Awards 1- best OS X Leopard Application 2 - best OS X Leopard Graphics and Media Application). After recording, you can edit, zoom, pan, hide the cursor, give the recording a coverflow floor reflection, all kinds of stuff. Not to the point of Camtasia's post editing, which is I'm sure insane, but hey, not to the price either. Here's the link if anyone wants to check it out.

Another reason I’m so fond of them is that on two occasions, I called with feature requests, and both times they released an update within two weeks including those features. The customer service and direct email communication was unlike anything I’ve experienced with a software company, maybe because at the time Vara was smaller. Who knows, but they’ve earned my :+1:

Very cool…

thanks for that link, Surprised I have never heard of it…

I use it every day and just love the simplicity and quality of it. For time lapse movies, the feature that it lacks is exporting sped up movies by percentage, like in Camtasia. Similar to my other two feature requests that they already added, I recently contacted them about it. I got a response that said they are keen on time lapse vids due to my requests and will add it in the next version! I’m telling you, they rock!

However, it’s easy to do with Quicktime. Not by percentage, but a little simple math will let you know how much to scale it down. So no loss there.

IF anyone ever does use Screenflow for the purpose of creating time lapse movies, here’s a tip. To cut down on the file size of your full length movies, you can set the frames per second that it records. It can do up to 30/sec, which is smooth as could be. I set it to 1/sec, but have even set it to .1/sec, which is cool. When speeding up a recording by 5,000-15,000%, you certainly don’t need 30 frames per second! Even 1/sec is overkill, but it will cut back on your export time and file sizes by 3000%.

Still no turntable export with ZBrush 3.2

Richard

Is it possible to open a .ZMV saved out in 3.12 with 3.5 and export a .MOV? I tried it today and Zbrush kept crashing on me…

THIS IS THE REASON I PURCHASED ZBRUSH.
You admit that this is a customer service issue as it has been rectified for PC3.5; yet there is no file converter available and if you don’t own zbrush .ZMV can not be played.

As a proffesional artist this is y I bought this program… to use it as a preproduction medium for biding on jobs and working through Ideas.

I’m a little pissed… this post was maid some time ago its time this issue is resolved.
