3.1 Great Job, Pixologic!

fx81 - well everything that is actually working without using third party app YES - I am calling a solution. I don’t see a problem in it - that’s how the program works, you CAN make what you want - where’s the problem then?
Whats your problem with masking? Its not hard, its not taking lot of time… Any trauma?

samar vijay - lot of my co-workers from India and Pakistan have ALWAYS some problems that I don’t…
Dont know why it comes to my head :stuck_out_tongue:
Burn baby, burn…!

Rastaman - we both know that one of the main goals was in that patch “just make it ready for Siggraph!”

pretty harsh posts about what i consider to be a superb update:confused:

For the people experiencing problems, have you, by any chance installed old Z2 plugins under 3.0 or 3.1?
That indeed might cause a lot of problems. I had some installed under 3.0, and wasnt even able to startup 3.1. I had to do a fresh install and have no problems since. Its very smooth, quick and stable now, its a breeze.:+1:

ok one question, how do i move points in a lets say level 2 tool or mesh or watever, with the “move” thing is kinda hard specially arround the edges, i have to rotate the tool to have the points i want to move in the center of the screen and brush size really big, like if “move” wasnt able to locate them, or is just me? :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey, Marcus!

If you get a chance could you check out my problem in post #241?

Much obliged!

~S.~

SNARK - I tried using the move brush on the z-sphere preview and it’s working fine in symmetry - afecting both sides of the preview mesh…same goes for adaptive skin…

I don’t know if this has been mentioned already but here’s a solution to a strange problem I’m having with the Smooth Brush pushing/pulling 5-sided points toward the model’s pivot point (It seems that the further the point is from the pivot point, the more the Smooth Brush displaces the point).

dimples.jpg

If you use Transform>Set Pivot on a portion of the mesh near the 5-sided points, the effect seems to be minimized.

I’m not sure what may be causing the problem but I don’t remember the same behavior in ZBrush 3.0.

Love the update overall though.

Rock stable upgrade. Weird errors and strange app quits gone. People probably blaming some weird stuff on it cause of lateral issues, on a clean work machine with a quad core and 4 Gb with 3 Gb open for the app, it rocks.

i agree . sometimes i did a smooth and it left a dot what i couldn’t smooth out no matter how hard i tried. seem that pixel is dead.

an other thing i found in 3.1 is the camera, Seem to me i can’t zoom all the way in when i have whole model displaced. Rotation is hard too. If i hide part of the model then i will able to zoom all the way in.
Anyone know where i find the control to adjust the camera pov?

By they way. 3.1 is awsome. Special the new brushes and hot key.
Thanks
Thao

:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1: Nice job on the update

Thanks for the response, Intervain.

I don’t understand this anomaly but it persists on my machine. What are your ‘Adaptive’ settings? I will try again.

~S.~

I used default settings - didn’t touch anything… but it worked also when I changed the density et al. no problems - though the symmetry had to be tuned on after making the adaptive skin - it seemed to turn it off, which makes sense I suppose since it’s a new object pretty much.

Well, the more I try things out, the more I like it. ZBrush does work different in many ways, like a brush keeping its size independant of the object you paint (scale it in and a small brush gives sharp details, scale it out and you get thick lines), but that’s like in real life: a felt marker always has the same size, independant of the sheet of paper’s size, and a gouge is independant from the size of your clay.
What I find problematic is that pressing shift to smooth sometimes gives bizarre results, depending on the brush you use.
But after having played the whole evening with 3.1 and tried out simple things like different brushes, focal shift, size and z-intensity (each has their own shortcut to get a slider, wow) , playing with curves (fascinating!), alpha’s (even more fascinating) and strokes (why are the settings always greyed out?) I know this will be fun.
BTW: I use XPPro with about 1 gig of ram available and I haven’t had any stability issues.

Question: can ZBrush make use of dual screens?

"we both know that one of the main goals was in that patch "just make it ready for Siggraph"miztli and rastaman…

you dont stop in your continuously negative feedback, for me is easy to see your purpose¨.:td:
Andreseloy

andreseloy - I am not one of those fanboys and geeks in one, so yes - I am not screaming continously WOW! and BRILLIANT and AMAZING. IF you open your eyes and check just a few posts earlier you will see that I am not all negative either.

Yes, I wasnt too happy with all waiting for a patch, and as you see soft still needs some tweaking but hey - dont get me wrong.
Zbrush is a solid piece of app - now more powerfull then ever. I said that couple of times already - I HAD NEVER problems with stability of Z3 even when everyone around were screaming around that Zbrush is closing, hanging and such. Never happend to me - and trust me - I was trying to hang him even  .
I am just that kind of grumpy old man, constantly sarcastic and making bad jokes - thats it. I really enjoy zbrush, admire what Pixologic did with it.

Happier now, for Gods sake?

3.1 rocks, but can someone try and and save out an alpha adjust curve from the alpha palette and see if it crashes? mine always crashes for some reason. thanks

Well i was working for the past few days during the new update, had time to read alot of horror stories about the 3.1 update. So i installed it ANYWAY.:grimacing:

I’ve only worked with it an hour, and have had no trouble. I was trying out the retopology stuff, and some of the new brushes.

I like the new interface, I hope after Sigraph we will see some 3.1 PDF.

:large_orange_diamond: Document the Cool hidden features of 3.1
Example: if you have a UV Texture map and switch to the CLAY Brush, you won’t see the map and only focus on sculpting. Switch to the BASIC Brush and the UV Map shows up again. (Context Sensitive, I think is the term)

:large_orange_diamond: Move Brush :+1: I like the name. It now makes sense again.

Oh yea, first time EVER i was able to subdivide PM3D of Super Averageman to 14million. I can’t work with that, but it was so cool. Also because i was TRYING to crash ZB3.1 it had a nice recovery window, and i never had to restart the app.

Go to the Brush menu, and disable Cavity Mask ( which is different than tool cavity mask ). The 3.1 patch has this on by default, which caught me off guard when playing with a polysphere.

Really enjoying using the 3.1 update !

It’s above and beyond what I was expecting for a ‘.1’ upgrade, and it’s much
appreciated.

Thanks Pixologic. :+1:

Given Z3 has the essential feature ( Topo masking ), hooking them together should not be hard. Either via a future update, or through scripting.

I thought about that but unfortunately that wasn’t the cause. The points gravitate to the center only when I use the Smooth Brush. Other smoothing functions also seem affected, though the Smooth Deformation slider causes the points to move away from the pivot instead of toward it.
