2008 Mermaid/ Now Male Mermaid

 Hi Everyone,
I’ 3D animator from Myanmar(Burma): the country far awar from digital age. I added 3D effect in Myanmar video “Mermaid” in 2008. The base mesh was made in 3D max and detail sculpting and painting by Zbrush 2. In my country all digital work must be done by one person because of low budget. I trried my best. Modeling, painting, camera tracking, animation, Render, and final composition and Post production. This is the final result of outcome.

Overall work is very nice.
Rendering and compositing also nice.

But scalling of mermaid, base stone, tail of fish, water are not matching.

Start some work on Male character and post some thing. All are ready to solve your problem.

Thinks for watching my post.

The link from metacafe.com didn’t work. I tried two times.May be connection problem of my country.

Here is the link from facebook. It works.

The Photo is something different from actual work of video production. The photo was done in Photoshop. The only thing 3D render is the Tail. The girl was actual character.
This one is also similar project.

We cannot see this link also. I have no face book account.
Simply upload to Youtube.

Hi Giri-Babu,
It’s not simple as you think. We ( Myanmar People) can’t use youtube. Our government restricted many website from uses. I also tried Metacafe. Not success.

I tried another web site for you.

Thanks for interesting my post.

Pls give advise to Mermaid scale

scale problem.jpg

To do this ,
Load image plane with texture and load black and white image to displacement map and turn displace on. The image plane is cut by black and white intensity.
This may be useful in placing reference plane in modeling.

You might be able to do this with a displacement map. Lay out the UV’s of the tail in an external editor, bring it back into zbrush, and import a tiling scale texture into the alpha menu. Select that alpha in the displacement menu by clicking on the empty square and navigating to your texture. Give it a strength and hit applyDisp. You may also want to bump up your poly count a couple of times. You still have to figure out the seam, but it’s less work than doing each scale by hand. I’ve seen some really nice models where that’s exactly what they did.

Thanks a lot ioster,
Your advise is very helpful for me. I’ll try my best to get good models like others.

Alpha seams on your sculpt are creating odd look.
So you can clean-up them manually with hPolish or mPolish brush.
Also clean the unwanted (overlapped) scales with above brushes.
Use smooth brush (press thift key) on every scale of the fish with low add intensity.
It will clean the zigzags of the scales.
Then use standard brush with small tip for draw on edges of every scale.
You can achieve clean scales.
After that export displacement map.

Thanks a lot to ioster.
I used tileable alpha and use displacement and the scale looks much better. The scale texture had fixed and Render with sss Mental ray in Max.
