2 Retopologizing issues

Hello guys.

Recently i was playing with zsphere retopologizing and there are two things that bug me, and i can’t figure them out on my own.

  1. How to isolate only one limb to be able to see my topology clearly and draw quads without struggling? Its really hard for me to draw even quads on the inner side of character leg, or in the armpit. I tried masking but for some reason it wouldnt work as soon as i click edit topology button.

  2. how to add a point in the middle of the edge. I know how to add and remove points but i need to be able to add one in the middle of the existing edge. Is there some kind of a shortcut?

Thanks, feedback much appreciated

J.

  • Add a point: Click on desired spot.
  • Delete a point: Alt-click on point.
  • Set a new starting point: Ctrl-click on point.
  • Select a point: LMB-click on the point.
  • Deselect a point: LMB-click outside your model.
  • Move points: Go from Draw mode to Move mode.
  • Move more points at once: Increase the brush size.
  • Scale points: Go to Scale mode. (works best with larger draw size)
  • Delete a connection-line without deleting the connected points: Insert a new point in the middle of the line and delete that point.

If we want to create a new line in another unrelated part of the geometry we must deselect, this can be done in several ways:

  • Clicking outside geometry
  • Using ctrl and click

Ctrl can accidentally mask a vert and this won’t be available for further editing. We can remove the selection as normal dragging with control outside of the geometry. This masking is done with Ctrl and dragging. But we can use it as an advantage selecting the verts we don’t want to touch in tricky areas armpits etc. Simply remember to remove the mask dragging ctrl when needed as it won’t be visible.

You can hide parts of you topology with ctrl+shift and dragging as you would do with any normal geometry.
Besides that you can have another subtool if needed as a reference and as a separate subtool you can hide whatever part you want.
