2 quick questions (answered)

the First is there a way to clear the memory of the tools, currently I have to close down ZBrush then reopen. If I don’t do this it seems like there are left over bits of the tool from the last session. For instance. I open up a gear break it up into sub tool groups. (say 4) and when I start on a new gear or a different item these sub tools have not been cleared yet. I can delete the sub tools. but I wondering if there is a quick way to clear all memory of this past tool.

When I use the spotlight tool i can’t model in 2.5d is there a reason for this or did I miss something. My quick fix for this is restarting ZBrush but it gets old fast restarting for something that should be so simple. Its like I need to use spotlight last in all the steps.

thax for the help in advance

You can push the R button (the one below “clone all subtools” button) to clear the top shelf of the tool palette, but the only way you can delete created tools is to delete them in the subtools palette, reload zbrush or re-initialize in the preference menu. If you re-initialize you will lose all your current customized items so be careful to save any brushes, textures, materials, alphas and tools you’ve created within the current session before you re-initialize.

You can model in Spotlight if you hit “z” (which is what you need to do to transfer images when rgb or mrgb is on) and your texture will remain on your workspace. If it is over your model and you have z add/subract on it acts like an alpha/stencil and can be sculpted over or you can set it to the side of your tool and use it for reference. The glitch is the smooth tool doesn’t work with this set up so you have to temporarily turn off spotlight completely by pressing shift-z and smooth then return if you wish to by re-selecting shift-z.

Thanks I will check those out.

  1. Loading a project will clear the current ztools from the Tool palette. So what you could do is save an empty project to the ZBrush 4.0/ZProjects so that it is easily available from Lightbox. Then make sure you save the ZTool that you want to continue working on, load the empty project and then load in the ZTool.

  2. To use Spotlight for reference images you need to turn off Spotlight Projection in the Brush>Samples menu. You will then be able to sculpt normally while the Spotlight images are visible.
