2 Problems: can't duplicate with transpose, Can't set pivot of transpose rotation.

Hey guys, can I get some help with this?

For some reason zbrush has decided to stop letting me duplicate meshes with the move tool. I hold ctrl, while moving the middle red handle and all it does it move my object, when it’s supposed to duplicate the mesh. Nothing is being masked or hidden, I’ve check that. However there’s a catch, it’s just this project that’s mis-behaving. I tried it in other projects and this works fine. Have I accidentally turned off a setting that allows me to duplicate with the transpose tool?

I can’t share the file because I’ve signed an NDA for it.

I also have a problem with the rotate tool. I have a character with a slanted eye-lid and i need to close the eye a bit. I could manually and pain-steakingly move it into place bit by bit, but why do that when I should be learning a more practical way about it?

Ideally, i’d like to align the pivot of the rotation tool to my view, because i can line up each corner of the eye just right that way. If I try to rotate the eye-lid into place, it just ends up pushing the eyelid outinto space. The way I’m used to doing this in for instance; Modo is changing the pivot settings so that it uses screen/camera space to orient the tool.

Maybe there’s another way. What is it though? How can i pose this eye lid?

Thanks.

It won’t do it if it has more than one subdivision or if it has layers. Try “Freeze SubDivision Levels” first.

I would think that the Action Line would be your best bet in ZBrush. You can set the pivot point wherever you want.

Problems solved.

Thanks for leading me straight to the answer for the duplication problem. Now i know i can’t duplicate objects with subdivisions on them.

As for making the pivot of the action line align to screen space, I had to dig a little deeper from that link you gave me but here’s an excerpt that solved my problem, for anyone interested:

When drawing your Transpose line onto a surface while taping once the Shift key the axis icon and line will not be snapped to the vertex but will align to the screen working space.
Note: You can tap or hold the Shift key to perform the Transpose alignment with the screen working plane, but keeping the Shift key pressed will add a 15° rotation constraint.

So basically, you just tap shift while drawing out an action line with the transpose tool.

Cheers.

Nope, that’s not completely solved the problem, it still occurs sometimes for no reason at all, and saving and quitting doesn’t solve it.

I was working on a dynamesh object, duplicating some teeth and shaping them as i went, when i decided to look at my reference on another layer of geometry. When I came back to my other geometry, i could no longer duplicate geometry using the transpose tool. I checked to see if i had subdivisions, nope. I saved, quit and came back in and it still wouldn’t revert to it’s original behaviour.

I found out that the problem only persists while I have parts of the mesh hidden. But that’s counter-intuitive and broken and was working fine before, there must be a way to duplicate a part of the mesh while the other is hidden. It’s probably a bug, but how can i squash it?

Has anyone ever been through this?
