2 Issues with materials on a tool and how can I remove a static image of a 3d model

Basically, my first issue is that after saving a doc of my 3d model (after saving it as a tool first) a static uneditable and unmovable version of my model remains and it is causing me some serious head trauma. I can still edit and move my original but this pesky double wont budge no matter what I try.

I have tried to search for the solution to this problem but without knowing the correct terminology I am not getting any luck.

Here is a screeny. The top right is my 3d object and the one below is the 2.5d object which i wish to remove

The 2nd issue is that after trying to correct the problem above I tried closing zbrush and just placing my tool on again. The problem here is as you can see, it is now waaaay to dark and I am at a loss as to why. Some useful information might be that the eyes are supposed to be the material matcap skeleton and the skin dotsometal1. Really would like to know what I am doing wrong here and I will provide as much info as you guys need to help me solve this, cause even if i fix the 1st problem when i come to load up my tool again at a later date the colours will be screwed

I appreciate your time and much kudos will be given to whoever can help to solve this!

Thanks
Joshwa

To your first issue, you probably just need to rebuild your scene. At this point, it looks like you just need to load the tool and redraw.

If you’re only working with one tool and some subtools, I don’t really see any reason to save it as a document.

For your second problem, make sure you are have your main tool selected and then check to see if you’ve assigned a dark polypaint color.

Also, set your material to “MaterialBasic2” and see if that helps.

I’m by no means a Zbrush expert…and if these tips don’t help you, I’m confident that someone with more experience will come along.

Thanks for the reply codexehow. No luck I am afraid with the 2nd one but I have resolved the first issue as it seems saving the doc was a good idea. I just cleared the layer in the colour menu and re-dragged my tool out and it was in perfect colour with no 2nd floating head. The fact that the colour remains as intended in this doc makes me think that it must be some settings in my document which changes how the model and colouring is viewed. Any ideas anybody as to what settings could do that?

Saving the ‘Document’ (Document>Save As) only saves an image of your canvas. There isn’t any editable contents in a document other than being able to draw on top of it and is mostly used for 2.5D illustration projects. Rarely used if your building 3D meshes. If you want to save an editable 3D mesh, save the ZTool (Tool>Save As) or the Project (File>Save As). There is no need to save the Document every time you close ZBrush.
