ZSpheres To Adaptive Skin - Volume Not Preserved

I created a ZSphere base for a dragon-like creature design I’m working on and after some playing with the Adaptive Skin settings I thought I had what I wanted, but then I realized that the volume was not accurately preserved; the mesh is a little smaller. Although I find that activating “Use Classic Skinning” worked well for the body, it messed up the wings while turning it off worked well for the wings but messed up the body. Is there anything I can do to get around this? I have a size 100 cursor in the same spot for size change reference.

Hi @Minnow!

I’m not sure how the mesh is being “messed up” in your estimation–you may need to explain the issue a bit more if my general advice doesn’t help. Show what is happening to the wings that you don’t want, in the mode you want to use.

Generally though, my advice is not to sweat the details too much when working with ZSpheres–the goal here is to block out your rough proportions, and get sculpting as quickly as possible. Zspheres offer only limited control over form and flow. Things that would require a lot of trial and error with Zspheres are usually trivial to do with sculpting or mesh tools.

If you can’t find a happy medium obtaining acceptable results for all parts of the body as a single mesh, then produce the wings and the body as separate Zsphere tools, and Dynamesh the two resulting skins together.

“Use Classic Skinning” does this to the wings:
Weird%20Wings

When I don’t have it on, they’re like this:
Less-Weird%20Wings

I’ll probably try either using ZSketch or just going with what I have. :slightly_smiling_face:
