ZSphere is a dome or worse when applying adaptive skin

Expected behavior:

Create a single zsphere and then apply adaptive skin.
Result should a roundish faceted shape.

Actual behaviour:

A faceted dome is create. One sound is round one side is flat.

If i modify the zspheres by adding another one … the 2nd sphere is round. the first remains flat

37%20AM 47%20AM

The first result (the half-dome) is due to zspheres requiring more than 1 zsphere to work. The root sphere is more of a placeholder that had no geometry of its own - it requires a second zsphere to cap it, and a child zsphere at both ends to make it fully closed.

The second part of the problem is that zspheres now have a dynamesh resolution by default. Since dynamesh requires geometry to be water-tight, it tries to cap the open topology with geometry. Set this resolution to 0 on the Adaptive Skin properties for more classic (and IMO better) zsphere topology.

Thanks for the reply. Im learning :slightly_smiling_face:
Its definately not intuitive behavior.

Hi @Jamie_Guillemette! I answered this in your duplicate thread. Zspheres can be weird, but in fairness this aspect is explained almost immediately in the documentation. Be sure to check out the link Cyrid provided!
