Zsphere intersection problem

Hello fellow zbrush users,

If got a problem using zspheres. I have recently sculpted a litte snail (well… some sort of), and now i want to make it in 3d with Zbrush 2.

This is the snail sculpted with super sculpey (my first one so dont laugh  ). I posted it so you can see what i want to make… and what goes wrong with the zbrush mesh.
(see picture)

Now i made the rough mesh with zsphere’s. Really simple mesh and it works out fine.
(see picture)

But now i have to make the eye’s and here comes the problem. As you can see in the picture (2a) the mesh intersects each other by the eye sticks. This is (i think) not good for the modeling stage later on. So i made another version with the eye’s (1a and 1b). But now it doesnt look like the sculpture. The eye (the sticks i mean) are to far away from the base mesh. But that is the only way to not intersects each other at the middle…

So… what is wrong with it? I have tried the MC and MP options but that doesnt work also. Please can someone help me out how to make a better mesh…or what can i do to solve the problem…

Thanks for reading and (maybe) helping me out.

The problem has to do with how ZBrush skins ZSpheres, and how you’ve structured them. In your second example, both eye stalks are connected to the same skinnable face of the parent ZSphere. This gives the overlap you’re seeing, and is discussed in detail within the Help system ZSphere tutorials and also the FAQ>ZSpheres section here at ZBC.

There are two easy options for you:

  1. Twist the ZSpheres. This would allow two skinnable faces to point upward, which would allow the stalks to be parented to different faces without overlap. Of course, all the ZSpheres in the mesh will need to be twisted, but it should work well.

  2. Change the intersection resolution of your figure, or of the ZSphere that the stalks are parented to. This in effect changes the ZSphere from a cube for skinning purposes to having more faces. The Zif_Click ZScript makes it possible to change a single ZSpheres Ires after it has been created, or you can change the entire figure using the options in the Tool>Adaptive Skin menu.

Wow thank you very much for your reply. Tomorrow i am going to check the options in your description…

Thank you very much again. I hope this will solve my problem.
