ZRetopo

Is there somwhere on this forum where requested features can be posted?

These heads were done as a learning exercise a while ago, around Zbrush 4 r 4 version, with retopo done in Blender. Rendered in ZBrush - (with some lightcap to cover the wonky edges up!)

but they got me thinking - now that we have the ZModeller, a hard edged box modeller paradigm that will run alongside the ‘sculpt-first-topology after’ paradigm that ZBrush has pioneered so well, I’m wondering if a future ZBrush couldn’t benefit from a ZRetopo brush to ‘bridge’ the two paradigms together?

It could leverage all the box modelling tools but with added retopo features - e.g. surface snap, edge extrude, polystrip draw, etc- but all implemented in the Pixologic, artist friendly way we love,- the idea being, that some manual (but preferably minimal!) quick to execute, polyflow over critical areas would create a framework that (a future) ZRemesher would interpolate over and fill in to create a directed topology from - thus giving a ‘best of both worlds’ clean mesh.

I know that we have ZRemesher guide curves - and maybe there’s a way to use them that I’ve not yet grasped, being still ZBrush learner driver, but I’ve not seen perfectly clean, bullet-proof hard edged poly flow from them. It’s good, but could do with being a lot better.

Exciting time right now - being on the ‘frontier’ of cg still as it were.

Best
