Zremesher settings that keep crisp edges?

Hello everyone.

Is there a setting that will help keep crisp/sharp edges when you Zremesh? I see “curve strength” for example, but I have no idea what that really does. Also there is “mesh integrity”. With dynamesh, there is “project” which helps maintain the shape. But how do you tell Zremesher to keep shape? If I Zremesh a high poly model, it is badly distorted at the crisp edges.

I have to zremesh a high poly model because it is an import from Rhino that has to go from triangles to quads. The only way to do that is to Remesh first. but this makes millions of polygons.

So once I remesh the model I imported from Rhino, my only option is to Zremesh, but I’m loosing crisp details, or decimation master.

I think my key is if I can Zremesh but keep crisp edges.

I did find on Pixologic website a page about “zremeshing hard surfaces” so I’ll try those tips.

Ironically, it says you should have polygroups to help Zremesher keep crisp edges…but the whole point of me Zremeshing is to try and reduce my polys and you can’t polygroup with a dense mesh. LOL

You can use polygroups with a dense mesh. You’ll just want to use group smoothing and the edgeloops function in Zbrush.
Personally I would just SDS model that thing as it is an extremely simple shape.

Sometimes you just have to take the long shortcut.

Yes, it is a simple shape, (this ring), that I could create in Zbrush with Zmodeler, etc. However, I have to develop this workflow anyways because a lot of things I will create will be more easily created in Rhino. So I’m going to have to learn how import STL’s into Zbrush, and then Remesh, and then create polygroups. And of course the trouble I have though at those stages, is that when you remesh you get millions of polygons.
