Zremesher just plain buggy

Zremesher used to work like a champ, now a get either errors or it hangs forever about half the time. I wonder if anyone else is having issue with this feature?

No, I haven’t been having those problems with Zremesher.

What version are you on? There was a bug introduced in the last few years that resulted in spots with mangled topology. You’d have to tap those areas with a tiny bit of smooth brush and it seemed to fix it. What sort of errors are you getting?

Hi @cdv ,

Frequent errors with a mesh or a failure to complete an operation is usually a sign of a problem specific to that mesh. There could be an issue with the mesh geometry, or a problem with the settings you are using.

Certain combinations of settings can simply be too ambitious for a given mesh. “Freeze Borders” for instance creates a much more complicated remeshing scenario that may fail if combined with other active settings. Symmetry conflicts are also possible–for instance if you have symmetry enabled but have a non-symmetrical element involved. One example would be activating symmetry for a mesh that has non-symmetrical ZRemesher guides applied.

ZRemesher can struggle with geometry that has been smashed or flattened together in an area. Remember that ZRemesher does not fuse the mesh in the way that Dynamesh or Live Boolean does. If the mesh contains areas of geometry like this, ZRemeshing will be slower and can fail altogether. It may be necessary to use another feature like Dynamesh to fuse and clean up overlapping areas first.

Finally, if your mesh reports any issues with Geometry> Mesh Integrity> Check Mesh, then all bets are off. Meshes with these issues may fail to work correctly with many features. That problem will need to be fixed.

Thank you!
