Zombified

Hello fellow ZBRUSHERS

I purchased ZBrush a few months ago, but have been too busy to really work with it. Before that when I had the demo version, I posted some REALLY bad sculpts just to get some feedback and work out some questions I had.

Well…I’m finally back to using Z again and loving it. I found a free basic head tool on ZBC, and resculpted it to create this zombie head. I sculpted it in “Z” and later used Photoshop for the post work. This is not a WIP, just a warm-up practice session to get reaquainted.

Please feel free to comment on it. You can even bash it if you want to, I’m used to critiques!!! Thanks zombie.jpg

When fellow Zviewers look but they don’t reply…it makes Zzombie…CRY!!!

Seriously, I know SOMEBODY out there has something to say. Don’t be shy, it’s okay! LOL

hi hyde ,i think you need to fix the jaw line it looks to curved ,you should
adjust mouse averaging when you sculpt would make it look less bumpy
keep at it!

Thanks for the advise. I realized the mouse average option about halfway through the project. I will definately use it more. It almost seems like mouse average should always be set high as the default so your art will always be smooth as a rule and bumpy as an option. Seems reversed!?!

I agree with the c and c…but if he is to be a zombie…ya have to give him battle damage and blood…I am thinking a blood smeared face that resembles the aftermath from eating a rack of bbq-ed ribs without any napkins present…ie Bub from Day of the Dead…loved those shades of blood and goo…

looking forward to more…

Bar-b-qed Ribs, Mmmmmm…Yup I agree with your accessment on the battle damage and gore. I intend on doing a full body zombie in the next couple of months that I will go to the extreme with. Still trying to get a handle on ZBrush at the moment.

Does anyone know if I will be able to create an entire character in ZBrush head to toe without memory issues, or should I plan on doing it in parts? I have a maxed out G-5 with osx.

Thanks for the input so far!

BTW here is my first attempt a few months ago on ZBrush modeling from a sphere…Pretty Lame. I hope my zombie is at least a few steps in the right direction.

Well actually your first head was pretty decent.

I think you should take the new base head you found and on it re-create the first head. Then you will know how well you have improved.

The zombie head is too smooth and too sharp. It doesn’t look like a deteriorating structure. It’s still symmetrical, just leaner looking.

The red material/texture on you first head really hurts the work you did. Concentrate on your form, texture later on after you sculpt on something else and come back. It might help you notice the necessary subtleties.

You will also see people on the forum work on something and then in the final flip the pose to give a different image. I suggest you do this constantly while working, put your sculpture upside down and on weird angles as it will force you observer many things people do not consciously observer.

If you pop over to the zsphere thread some ideas for structure might help you with future heads/characters to get you started.

Wow, now that’s the kind of help I’m looking for. I’ll definately try your suggestions out. I haven’t done color work in ZBrush yet, so any color you see is in Photoshop. I know that is not helping me out too much either. Thank you very much for the help, and I’ll be back with more in the future.

Can someone help with this problem?..

Pic one shows some base color work in projection master and pic two shows it after it is picked up. Why is this happening? This is why I’ve been coloring in Photoshop.

Thanks in advance

Is this maybe a memory problem or a resolution issue?

Its an AUV tile issue I think,Id like to see if any help comes out of this also!!

What is an AUV tile? My AUV Ratio is set to 1. All of my settings are default right now.

Hello. Your UVs are not set up on this mesh. To create UVs in ZBrush do the following:

Go to the lowest subdivisin level
In the tool palette go to the texture menu and press AUV or GUV.

To learn more about AUV and GUV visit the wiki here:

Thank you Ryan, I’ll do that now!
